Dual Roads of CENP-A for Centromere Identification. [PDF]

open access: yesBioessays
The Mis18C and CENP‐C pathways are structurally distinct in centromeres; however, each pathway acts on a pre‐existing CENP‐A nucleosome and recruits HJURP to deposit a new CENP‐A nucleosome nearby during the early G1 phase. This dual, structurally guided mechanism helps maintain centromere identity in chicken cells throughout cell divisions.

Dual pathways via CENP-C and Mis18C recruit HJURP for CENP-A deposition into vertebrate centromeres [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal
Centromere position is specified and maintained by sequence-independent epigenetic mechanisms in vertebrate cells, with the incorporation of the centromere-specific histone H3 variant CENP-A into chromatin being a key event for centromere specification ...

Phosphorylation of Xenopus M18BP1 governs centromeric localization and CENP-A nucleosome assembly [PDF]

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Eukaryotic chromosome segregation requires attachment of chromosomes to microtubules through the kinetochore so that chromosomes can align and move in mitosis.

Anti-CENP-B polarity divides SLE: divergent clinical-immune phenotypes and distinct treatment responses [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundAnti-CENP-B antibodies (anti-CENP-B), directed against centromere protein B, are a serological hallmark of limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) but are only occasionally encountered in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Gastrointestinal Parasites in Free-Ranging Saguinus ursulus From the Eastern Brazilian Amazon: First Report of Prosthenorchis sp. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Med Primatol
ABSTRACT Enteroparasites were investigated in free‐ranging Saguinus ursulus from the eastern Brazilian Amazon. Parasites were detected in 76.5% (13/17) of capture events, with Prosthenorchis sp. most frequently detected (58.8%; 10/17). Animals showed good body condition and no clinical abnormalities.

Structure and dynamics of 2x(CENP-A/H4) 2 octasome reveal a possible intermediate in centromeric chromatin [PDF]

open access: yesLife Science Alliance
Cryo-EM and biochemical analyses reveal that CENP-A/H4 octasomes form stable, flexible chromatin intermediates that may facilitate CCAN engagement and centromere organization.

Epigenetic centromere identity is precisely maintained through DNA replication but is uniquely specified among human cells

open access: yesLife Science Alliance, 2023
Plasticity in the position of CENP-A enrichment and location of kinetochore recruitment between human cell lines is accompanied by precise CENP-A maintenance across the cell cycle to preserve unique epigenetic centromere identities among human cells ...

Essentiality of CENP-A Depends on Its Binding Mode to HJURP

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: CENP-A incorporation is critical for centromere specification and is mediated by the chaperone HJURP. The CENP-A-targeting domain (CATD) of CENP-A specifically binds to HJURP, and this binding is conserved. However, the binding interface of CENP-

The IRF2/CENP-N/AKT signaling axis promotes proliferation, cell cycling and apoptosis resistance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells by increasing aerobic glycolysis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2021
Background Centromere protein N (CENP-N) has been reported to be highly expressed in malignancies, but its role and mechanism in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are unknown.

CENP-A and CENP-B collaborate to create an open centromeric chromatin state

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Centromeres are epigenetically defined via the presence of the histone H3 variant CENP-A. Contacting CENP-A nucleosomes, the constitutive centromere associated network (CCAN) and the kinetochore assemble, connecting the centromere to spindle microtubules
