Astrocyte Regulation of CNS Inflammation and Remyelination

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2013
Astrocytes regulate fundamentally important functions to maintain central nervous system (CNS) homeostasis. Altered astrocytic function is now recognized as a primary contributing factor to an increasing number of neurological diseases.

Chemokines, Chemokine Receptors and Atherosclerosis

open access: yes, 2005
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on chemokines, chemokine receptors, and atherosclerosis. Chemokines play essential roles in inflammation and disease. This family of inflammatory mediators has diverse roles in both immune and inflammatory responses, including the regulation of cellular recruitment, activation, and differentiation.

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Beneficial Immunomodulatory Effects of Fluticasone Propionate in Chlamydia pneumoniae-Infected Mice

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
The associations between inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) use and pulmonary infections remains controversial. Chlamydia pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae) accounts for asthma exacerbations; however, there are no data regarding ICS effects on C. pneumoniae infections.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Chimeric Oncolytic Adenovirus Armed Chemokine Rantes for Treatment of Breast Cancer

open access: yesBioengineering, 2022
The immunosuppressive state in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of breast cancer makes it difficult to treat with immunotherapy. Oncolytic viruses not only lyse tumor cells but also reshape the TME.
