Targeting Lactate and Lactylation in Cancer Metabolism and Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactate, once deemed a metabolic waste, emerges as a central regulator of cancer progression. This review elucidates how lactate and its epigenetic derivative, protein lactylation, orchestrate tumor metabolism, immune suppression, and therapeutic resistance.

The Measurement of High-Density Lipoprotein Mediated Cholesterol Efflux from Macrophage Cells by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2014
Background: Studies have shown a negative association between macrophage cholesterol efflux and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, the current methods for measuring cholesterol efflux require a radioactive tracer and involve a ...

Familial hypercholesterolaemia : cholesterol efflux and coronary disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) risk inversely associates with levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). The protective effect of HDL is thought to depend on its functionality, such as its ability to induce cholesterol efflux ...

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Association of Cholesterol Efflux Capacity With Clinical Features of Metabolic Syndrome: Relevance to Atherosclerosis

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
Background The contribution of high‐density lipoprotein to cardiovascular benefit is closely linked to its role in the cellular cholesterol efflux process; however, various clinical and biochemical variables are known to modulate the overall cholesterol ...

Independent Effects of Kidney Function and Cholesterol Efflux on Cardiovascular Mortality

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Background: Impaired renal function is associated with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. In the general population, HDL-cholesterol is associated with cardiovascular events, which is not true in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

PMP22 Regulates Cholesterol Trafficking and ABCA1-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 2019
The absence of functional peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22) is associated with shortened lifespan in rodents and severe peripheral nerve myelin abnormalities in several species including humans. Schwann cells and nerves from PMP22 knock-out (KO) mice show deranged cholesterol distribution and aberrant lipid raft morphology, supporting an ...

Sex‐Specific Regulation of Glycemic Homeostasis by Theabrownin from Pu‐erh Tea

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pu‐erh tea's key component, theabrownin (TB), lowers blood glucose in a sex‐specific manner. In females, estrogen boosts intestinal MUC2 production, which dramatically enhances TB's ability to inhibit the carbohydrate‐digesting enzyme α‐glucosidase.

Selective Nitrate Transmembrane Transport Through Adaptive Weak C─H Bonding Cyanostilbene Water Channels

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Here we demonstrate that weak HB CH donor cyanostilbenes promote water/ion transport through their ability to form less‐ordered transient water channels within the lipid bilayer with increased water permeability and NO3−/ Cl− selectivity. ABSTRACT Transmembrane water transport strongly depends on how dynamic, translocating water clusters are stabilized

ABC Transporters, Cholesterol Efflux, and Implications for Cardiovascular Diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Most types of cells in the body have no or very limited capacity of catabolizing cholesterol, so cholesterol efflux is essential for cholesterol homeostasis. There are multiple mechanisms responsible for cellular cholesterol efflux.
