Cholic Acid Biosynthesis [PDF]
Cholic acid biosynthesis is defective in individuals with cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) and is associated with the excretion of 5beta-cholestane-3alpha,7alpha, 12alpha,25-tetrol, an intermediate in the 25-hydroxylation pathway of cholic acid in CTX.

Bacteroides fragilis employs bile salt hydrolase to reprogram host bile acid metabolism, generating lithocholic acid that directly blocks porcine deltacoronavirus infection by disrupting spike protein‐aminopeptidase N binding, defining a microbiota‐bile acid antiviral axis with therapeutic potential against coronaviruses.

7alpha-Dehydroxylation of cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid by Clostridium leptum.
The rate of 7alpha-dehydroxylation of primary bile acids was quantitatively measured radiochromatographically in anaerobically washed whole cell suspensions of Clostridium leptum.

Abstract Previous in vitro studies have indicated that oxidized phytosterol (OPS) exhibits some toxicity; however, the harmful effects of OPS on fatty acid metabolism are not completely understood yet. Therefore, this study examined the effects of exogenous phytosterol (PS) and OPS on growth parameters and lipid metabolism in rats.

Sex‐dependent effects on plasma metabolome and gut microbiota were observed after oral administration of ellagic acid (EA) encapsulated in milk‐derived exosomes (EXO‐EA) versus non‐encapsulated EA (NEA) and non‐loaded EXOs. EXO‐EA impacted plasma metabolome, modulated gut microbiota, and increased urolithin A and SCFA production sex‐dependently ...
