An unusual type of cilium

American Journal of Anatomy, 1975
AbstractThe connective tissue cells of the dentinal pulp of unerupted dog teeth possess occasional cilia. Internally there are 4 to 8 peripheral doublets and one central doublet. Nine peripheral doublets are observed only close to or near the basal body.

CEP290 and the Primary Cilium

2014
The protein CEP290 has recently emerged as a major player in the biology of the cilium and as a causative protein in a number of human syndromic diseases, most of which are associated with the devastating blinding disease Leber congenital amaurosis. (Coppieters et al., Hum Mutat 31, 2010, 1097-1108) CEP290 is known to be an important component of the ...

The purkinje cell cilium

The Anatomical Record, 1969
AbstractIn the course of ultrastructural studies on the cerebellar cortex of young rats a cilium was found in some Purkinje cells. The shaft, which is 1800 to 2000 ÅR thick, has an internal portion inside the cell body and an external one projecting into the neuropile. The basal body is consistently located near the Golgi apparatus.

A PHYSIOLOGICAL VIEW OF THE PRIMARY CILIUM

Annual Review of Physiology, 2005
▪ Abstract  The primary cilium, an organelle largely ignored by physiologists, functions both as a mechano-sensor and a chemo-sensor in renal tubular epithelia. This forgotten structure is critically involved in the determination of left-right sidedness during development and is a key factor in the development of polycystic kidney disease, as well as ...

Ectopic cilium in seven horses

Veterinary Ophthalmology, 2005
AbstractEctopic cilium was diagnosed by slit‐lamp biomicroscopy and treated surgically by transconjunctival excision in seven adult horses. All cases presented with a common history of blepharospasm, ocular discharge and keratitis. Ophthalmic examination revealed a single translucent cilium in the upper eyelid palpebral conjunctiva, emerging ...
