Evaluation of circulating tumor DNA as a biomarker in pancreatic cancer with liver metastasis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive, solid tumor, with a grave prognosis. Despite surgical treatment in patients with pancreatic cancer, the rate of recurrence is high.

Liquid Biopsy in Rare Cancers: Lessons from Hemangiopericytoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hemangiopericytoma (HPT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor of fibroblastic type and for its rarity is poorly studied. The most common sites of metastatic disease in patients with intracranial HPT are the bone, liver, and lung, suggestive for an hematogenous ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Non-invasive Technology Advances in Cancer—A Review of the Advances in the Liquid Biopsy for Endometrial and Ovarian Cancers

open access: yesFrontiers in Digital Health, 2020
Improving cancer survival rates globally requires improvements in disease detection and monitoring, with the aim of improving early diagnosis and prediction of disease relapse. Traditional means of detecting and monitoring cancers rely largely on imaging

Metastasis and circulating tumor cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cancer is a prominent cause of death worldwide. In most cases, it is not the primary tumor which causes death, but the metastases. Metastatic tumors are spread over the entire human body and are more difficult to remove or treat than the primary tumor ...

Cancer epithelia-derived mitochondrial DNA is a targetable initiator of a paracrine signaling loop that confers taxane resistance. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Stromal-epithelial interactions dictate cancer progression and therapeutic response. Prostate cancer (PCa) cells were identified to secrete greater concentration of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) compared to noncancer epithelia.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Genomic Assessment of Blood-Derived Circulating Tumor DNA in Patients With Colorectal Cancers: Correlation With Tissue Sequencing, Therapeutic Response, and Survival. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
PurposeGenomic alterations in blood-derived circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) from patients with colorectal cancers were correlated with clinical outcomes.Patients and methodsNext-generation sequencing of ctDNA (54- to 73-gene panel) was performed in 94 ...

Selection Of A Novel Aptamer Against Vitronectin Using Capillary Electrophoresis And Next Generation Sequencing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Breast cancer (BC) results in ≃40,000 deaths each year in the United States and even among survivors treatment of the disease may have devastating consequences, including increased risk for heart disease and cognitive impairment resulting from the toxic ...

The Role of Circulating Tumor DNA Analyses

open access: yes, 2022
All cells shed DNA into circulation (cell-free DNA; cfDNA) based on various processes like apoptosis, necrosis, or active release (Stroun et al., Clin Chim Acta 313(1–2):139–142, 2001; Schwarzenbach et al., Nat Rev Cancer 11(6):426–437, 2011). A fraction of the cfDNA may be circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) that represents the DNA released from cancer ...
