Methylation-dependent PAD2 upregulation in multiple sclerosis peripheral blood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Peptidylarginine deiminase 2 (PAD2) and peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) are two members of PAD family which are over-expressed in the multiple sclerosis (MS) brain.

Distinct HLA Associations for Antibody Multireactivity With Citrulline‐Containing Type II Collagen Epitopes Versus More Limited Antibody Reactivity With Citrulline‐Containing IgG Epitopes in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Anticitrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can be promiscuous, with cross‐reactive binding to many antigens containing short motifs, or private with little cross‐reactivity. Also, ACPA reactivity patterns differ among patients with RA, including for motif‐containing epitopes in important self‐antigens like ...

Variable domain N-linked glycosylation and negative surface charge are key features of monoclonal ACPA: implications for B-cell selection

open access: yes, 2018
Autoreactive B cells have a central role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and recent findings have proposed that anti-citrullinated protein autoantibodies (ACPA) may be directly pathogenic.

Expression of citrulline and homocitrulline residues in the lungs of non-smokers and smokers : implications for autoimmunity in rheumatoid arthritis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Introduction: Smoking is a well-established risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and it has been proposed that smoking-induced citrullination renders autoantigens immunogenic.

Synthetic Cathepsin B Sensitive Adjuvant‐Peptide Conjugates to Target Intracellular Toll‐Like Receptors 7 and 8

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Cathepsin B‐sensitive peptide–adjuvant conjugates are designed, synthesized, and evaluated to deliver an antigenic peptid and an adjuvant targeting Toll‐like receptors 7 and 8 (TLR7/8) to antigen presenting cells. The adjuvant is released by cathepsin B resulting in antigen presentation and TLR mediated T cell activation.

l-Citrulline Supplementation-Increased Skeletal Muscle PGC-1α Expression Is Associated with Exercise Performance and Increased Skeletal Muscle Weight [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
1 Scopel‐citrulline has recently been reported as a more effective supplement for promoting intracellular nitric oxide (NO) production compared to l‐arginine.

Biosynthesis of Citrulline in Plants [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1961
IN 1930 citrulline was discovered in water-melons1. Later it was shown to be an important participant in the Krebs and Henseleit ornithine cycle in animals and micro-organisms. In recent years several laboratories have worked on the ornithine cycle in plants.

Untargeted Metabolomics Identifies N‐Lactoyl‐Amino Acids as Dose‐Responsive Plasma Biomarkers of Metformin Adherence in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Metformin is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug, yet adherence remains difficult to objectively assess. Using untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, we analyzed plasma from 637 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with confirmed metformin use and 143 nondiabetic controls, annotating 614 metabolites.
