Archaeal protein containing domain of unknown function 2193 undergoes oligomeric reconfiguration upon iron–sulfur cluster binding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This work presents the characterization of MvoDUF2193, a Methanococcus voltae (Mvo) protein from the domain of unknown function (DUF) 2193 family. We demonstrate that MvoDUF2193 binds a single [4Fe–4S] cluster per subunit and that cluster occupancy regulates the transition from an apo tetramer to a [4Fe–4S] monomeric form. This structural transition is

Molecular cloning and genomic organization of chicken syndecan-4.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1994
We have cloned and determined the genomic organization of the core protein of the chicken transmembrane proteoglycan, syndecan-4. Identification of the initial cDNA was accomplished using polyclonal antibodies directed against the cytoplasmic domain of murine syndecan-1 core protein.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Molecular Identification of tw5: Vps52 Promotes Pluripotential Cell Differentiation through Cell–Cell Interactions

open access: yesCell Reports, 2012
After implantation, pluripotent epiblasts are converted to embryonic ectoderm through cell–cell interactions that significantly change the transcriptional and epigenetic networks.

Identification of genes involved in xylose metabolism of Meyerozyma guilliermondii and their genetic engineering for increased xylitol production

open access: yesAMB Express, 2020
Meyerozyma guilliermondii, a non-conventional yeast that naturally assimilates xylose, is considered as a candidate for biotechnological production of the sugar alternative xylitol. Because the genes of the xylose metabolism were yet unknown, all efforts

Co‐overexpression of the caloric restriction‐induced mitochondrial factors PGC‐1α and MIPEP upregulates Phospho1 expression in adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.

Simple, Directional cDNA Cloning for In Situ Transcript Hybridization Screens

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2001
Here, we describe a suppression PCR-based method for directional cloning of randomly primed cDNAs from small quantities of tissue. Synthesis of the first cDNA strand is conducted on oligonucleotide-coated magnetic beads. Synthesis of the second strand is

Parasites, Drugs and Captivity: Blastocystis-Microbiome Associations in Captive Water Voles

open access: yesBiology, 2021
(1) Background: Blastocystis is a microbial eukaryote inhabiting the gastrointestinal tract of a broad range of animals including humans. Several studies have shown that the organism is associated with specific microbial profiles and bacterial taxa that ...
