Study on the spatial differentiation and driving factors of ‘Non-grain’ of cultivated land in Anyuan county

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Non-grain production of cultivated land (NGPCL) threatened food security. Therefore, scholars have begun study this area in China and other countries, but most of the studies have focused on large scales, and few studies have focused on plot scale ...

‘Guide and Prejudice’— How Argonautes recognize targets across domains of life

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Argonaute proteins use short nucleic‐acid guides to locate and regulate specific targets across all domains of life. Despite striking diversity—from human gene silencing to bacterial immune defence—all Argonautes share a conserved three‐stage recognition logic: guide‐directed sampling, progressive target pairing with a conformational checkpoint and ...

Glutathione depletion and carbon ion radiation potentiate clustered DNA lesions, cell death and prevent chromosomal changes in cancer cells progeny. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Poor local control and tumor escape are of major concern in head-and-neck cancers treated by conventional radiotherapy or hadrontherapy. Reduced glutathione (GSH) is suspected of playing an important role in mechanisms leading to radioresistance, and its

Clustered DNA damage induced by heavy ion particles

open access: yesBiological Sciences in Space, 2004
Clustered DNA damage (locally multiply damaged site) is thought to be a critical lesion caused by ionizing radiation, and high LET radiation such as heavy ion particles is believed to produce high yields of such damage. Since heavy ion particles are major components of ionizing radiation in a space environment, it is important to clarify the chemical ...

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

The ubiquitin system in normal and infected germinal center B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The ubiquitin system plays a central role in germinal center (GC) B cells, influencing differentiation to long‐lived memory B cells. Oncogenic gammaherpesviruses gain access to memory B cells by establishing latency in GC B cells. Mapping ubiquitin mechanisms in normal and infected GC B cells will define specific molecular circuits in B cells germane ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Reference‐Free Damage Classification Based on Cluster Analysis

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, 2008
Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite materials have been used widely for retrofitting of civil infrastructure systems. The ultimate aim of this work was to develop an on-site non-destructive testing (NDT) technique that can continuously and autonomously inspect the bonding condition between a carbon FRP (CFRP) layer and a host reinforced concrete ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Quantifying DNA strand breaks from targeted alpha emitters 225Ac and 227Th via Geant4-DNA: implications for RBE and cell survival

open access: yesEJNMMI Physics
Background Targeted alpha therapy (TAT) utilizing high-LET alpha particles from radionuclides like 225Ac and 227Th shows promise in cancer treatment due to their ability to induce dense, localized DNA damage.
