Cohesin codes – interpreting chromatin architecture and the many facets of cohesin function [PDF]
Summary Sister chromatid tethering is maintained by cohesin complexes that minimally contain Smc1, Smc3, Mcd1 and Scc3. During S-phase, chromatin-associated cohesins are modified by the Eco1/Ctf7 family of acetyltransferases. Eco1 proteins function during S phase in the context of replicated sister chromatids to convert chromatin-bound ...

Genomic analysis of cohesin dynamics in fission yeast [PDF]
Cohesin holds sister chromatids together and facilitates their accurate segregation in mitosis. Little is known about how and where cohesin binds to chromosomes.

The cohesin protein complex was first recognized for holding sister chromatids together and ensuring proper chromosome segregation. Cohesin also regulates gene expression, but the mechanisms are unknown.

Chromosome segregation requires both the separation of sister chromatids and the sustained condensation of chromatids during anaphase. In yeast cells, cohesin is not only required for sister chromatid cohesion but also plays a major role determining the ...

Dual native G‐quadruplex folding is associated with chromatin looping at the MYC locus
BG4‐detectable G‐quadruplex (G4) in HaCaT and NHEK keratinocytes identified folded and unfolded G4s enriched at promoters/TSSs and active enhancers, whereas unfolded G4s also overlapped weak/poised enhancers. At MYC–PVT1, 3C‐qPCR detected enhancer–promoter looping only when G4s were simultaneously folded at both regulatory elements under native ...

Intermediate step of cohesin’s ATPase cycle allows cohesin to entrap DNA [PDF]
Significance Cohesin is an ATPase that organizes chromosome structure for chromosome segregation, gene expression, and DNA repair. Its function has been implicated in the prevention of cancer, birth defects, and several human disorders.

Irr1/Scc3 Cohesin Interacts with Rec8 in Meiotic Prophase of Saccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]
The meiotic cohesin complex of S. cerevisiae shares with the mitotic one the Irr1/Scc3, Smc1, and Smc3 subunits, while the meiosis-specific subunit Rec8 re-places mitotic subunit Scc1/Mcd1.

This study demonstrates that iron overload triggers widespread chromatin compaction and transcriptional repression in human granulosa cells, recapitulating features of endometriosis. The epigenetic reprogramming is orchestrated by a TFEB‐SOX4‐SWI/SNF axis, with SOX4 acting as a central, dosage‐sensitive regulator.

IGF2BP1‐mediated m6A stabilization sustains SMC1A expression, enabling cohesin‐associated chromatin regulation of Nestin in hepatocellular carcinoma. This work reveals an epitranscriptomic‐chromatin‐cytoskeletal regulatory axis linked to malignant phenotypes and identifies SMC1A as a biologically relevant vulnerability in HCC.
