Collagen type IX: Evidence for covalent linkages to type II collagen in cartilage
A major site of pyridinoline cross‐linking in bovine type IX collagen was traced to a tryptic peptide derived from one of the molecule's HMW chains. This peptide gave two amino acid sequences (in ratio) consistent with it being a three‐chained structure.

Type II collagen quantification in experimental chondrogenesis
Type II collagen is an excellent indicator of the cartilage phenotype. Accurate quantification with existing methods requires about 100 micrograms of collagen. We have developed a method which allows for accurate quantification of type II collagen in samples as small as 1 microgram (and sample volumes as little as 1 microliters).

The composition and properties of collagen in teleost (bony fish) cartilage have never been studied. In this study, we aimed to identify and characterise all collagen species in the nasal cartilage of hoki (Macruronus novaezelandiae).

Structure and pathogenicity of antibodies specific for citrullinated collagen type II in experimental arthritis [PDF]
Antibodies to citrulline-modifi ed proteins have a high diagnostic value in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, their biological role in disease development is still unclear.

Comparison of the solophenyl-red polarization method and the immunohistochemical analysis for collagen type III [PDF]
In the present study, we have compared the staining pattern of the Solophenyl-Red 3 BL-method for the visualization of collagen type III with the immunohistochemical staining in serial sections from 7 skin wounds (wound age 3 days up to 4 weeks) to ...

A COL2A1 Mutation in Achondrogenesis Type II Results in the Replacement of Type II Collagen by Type I and III Collagens in Cartilage [PDF]
An autosomal dominant mutation in the COL2A1 gene was identified in a fetus with achondrogenesis type II. A transition of G2853 to A in exon 41 produced a substitution of Gly769 by Ser within the triple helical domain of the alpha 1(II) chain of type II collagen, interrupting the mandatory Gly-X-Y triplet sequence required for the normal formation of ...

Epicutaneous immunization with type II collagen inhibits both onset and progression of chronic collagen-induced arthritis. [PDF]
Epicutaneous immunization is a potential non-invasive technique for antigen-specific immune-modulation. Topical application of protein antigens to barrier-disrupted skin induces potent antigen-specific immunity with a strong Th2-bias.

Visualization and phenotyping of proinflammatory antigen-specific T cells during collagen-induced arthritis in a mouse with a fixed collagen type II-specific transgenic T-cell receptor beta-chain [PDF]
Introduction: The Vbeta12-transgenic mouse was previously generated to investigate the role of antigen-specific T cells in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), an animal model for rheumatoid arthritis. This mouse expresses a transgenic collagen type II (CII)
