Mini-Collagens in Hydra Nematocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
We have isolated and characterized four collagen-related c-DNA clones (N-COL 1, N-COL 2, N-COL 3, N-COL 4) that are highly expressed in developing nematocytes in hydra.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Restoration of the extracellular matrix in human osteoarthritic articular cartilage by overexpression of the transcription factor SOX9 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Objective. Human osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by a pathologic shift in articular cartilage homeostasis toward the progressive loss of extracellular matrix (ECM).

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

The Ultrastructural Localization of Type II, IV, and VI Collagens at the Vitreoretinal Interface. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The vitreoretinal interface is the border of the cortical vitreous and the inner surface of the retina. The adhesion of the cortical vitreous to the ILM, namely vitreoretinal adhesion, involves a series of complex molecular adhesion mechanisms and has ...

Effects of serum and compressive loading on the cartilage matrix synthesis and spatiotemporal deposition around chondrocytes in 3D culture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of serum and compressive dynamic loading on the cartilaginous matrix spatiotemporal distribution around chondrocytes in vitro. Murine chondrocytes suspended in agarose were cultured in serum-free media

Antigen presentation of Type II collagen in rats [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Immunology, 2001
SummaryCollagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a T-cell dependent disease of rats which follows immunization with bovine type II collagen (bCII). Susceptibility to CIA is linked to the genes encoding the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), suggesting that antigen presentation is important in disease pathogenesis.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
