Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

The potential of undenatured type II collagen against arthritis: a review

open access: yesCollagen and Leather
The increasing global aging population has led to a continual rise in the prevalence of bone and joint diseases, posing challenges to both the quality of life for patients and healthcare resources. Type II collagen, a pivotal protein for sustaining joint

Characterization of collagen response to bone fracture healing using polarization-SHG

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
In this study, we extend on the three parameter analysis approach of utilizing a noninvasive dual-liquid–crystal-based polarization-resolved second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy to facilitate the quantitative characterization of collagen types I ...

Liquid biopsy‐based diagnostic evaluation of hypermethylated CpG sites for ovarian cancer diagnosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This schematic outlines the workflow from biomarker identification to duplex MethyLight assay validation for epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis using cfDNA‐based liquid biopsy. Initial screening of hypermethylated CpG candidates (cg02957270, cg10061138 cg00480298, COL2A1) was performed in tissue using ARMS‐PCR, COBRA, qPCR and image analysis. Selected

Anti-Inflammatory Effects of HDL in Mice With Rheumatoid Arthritis Induced by Collagen

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
ObjectiveTo investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in mice with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) induced by collagen.MethodsMale DBA/1 mice (8-week-old) were divided into three groups: control (treated with saline), collagen-

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

The signs of differentiation of chondrocytes in the formation of early cartilage lesions in the elderly

open access: yesНаучно-практическая ревматология, 2011
Objective. To study the relationship between the activity of collagen type II cleavage and the pattern of expression of the genes responsible for chondrocyte differentiation in the areas of intact cartilaginous tissue and in those of early focal ...

Arthritogenicity of collagen type II is increased by chlorination

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Immunology, 2006
Summary During inflammation, activated neutrophils, monocytes and macrophages produce and release myeloperoxidase (MPO). MPO converts hydrogen peroxide to hypochlorous acid, a highly reactive and oxidizing agent. Proteins subjected to hypochlorous acid become chlorinated.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Region specific microstructural complexity of the ovine meniscus root provides an organizational basis for injury susceptibility

open access: yesScientific Reports
Comprehensive information on the meniscus root microstructure is essential to exactly understand its physiological role and susceptibility to injury. We selected the ovine medial meniscus anterior root (MAR) as model to elucidate the intricate spatial ...
