Complement dysregulation in human tauopathies
Complement protein and activation product levels were assessed in post‐mortem frontal cortex from three distinct subtypes of Tauopathy: Corticobasal degeneration, globular glial tauopathy, and Pick's disease. Quantification of complement proteins by immunohistochemistry and ELISA showed elevation of key complement proteins (C1q) regulators (FI) and ...

C3A: A Cognitive Collaborative Control Architecture For an Intelligent Wheelchair [PDF]
Retention of residual skills for persons who partially lose their cognitive or physical ability is of utmost importance. Research is focused on developing systems that provide need-based assistance for retention of such residual skills. This paper describes a novel cognitive collaborative control architecture C3A, designed to address the challenges of ...

Abstract This study advances a new approach to investigating the resilience of regional banking systems by reconstructing the co‐evolving branch and interbank networks in post‐Confederation Canada (1879–1900). By digitizing annual banking registers, this study employed a microgeographic approach to constructing a novel longitudinal dataset on city ...

Erythropoietin Effect on Complement Activation in Chronic Kidney Disease
The complement system is an important part of innate immunity. Despite its known protective role, the complement system may contribute to increased inflammation and tissue injury in cases where its balanced activation is disrupted.

Protective immune response against Rhodococcus equi: An innate immunity‐focused review
Abstract Rhodococcus equi causes pyogranulomatous pneumonia in foals and immunocompromised people. Despite decades of research efforts, no vaccine is available against this common cause of disease and death in foals. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarise the current understanding of interactions between R. equi and the host innate immune

Complement 3a Mediates CCN2/CTGF in Human Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells
Background. Complement 3 (C3) is the crucial component of the complement cascade when retina was exposed to external stimulus. Cellular communication network 2/connective tissue growth factor (CCN2/CTGF) is important in response of retinal stress and a ...

The membrane attack complex (MAC) is formed by the stepwise assembly of five proteins: C5b, C6, C7, C8 and C9. MAC plays a key role in driving inflammation in numerous diseases. This study compares the inhibitory mechanisms of MAC assembly by soluble CD59 (sCD59), a disulphide‐locked C9 mutant (C9lock) and horse C9 (HoC9).
