Effect of Food Mass in the Gut on the Metabolic Rate of Carcinus maenas in the Field
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2025.We measured the metabolic costs of digestion of crabs in the field to determine its impact relative to the many other factors that can influence metabolic rates. We show that the costs of digestion are detectable, but play a relatively minor role in the overall energetic costs of the European green crab.
