Assembly factors and ATP-dependent proteases in cytochrome c oxidase biogenesis [PDF]
Eukaryotic cytochrome c oxidase (CcO), the terminal enzyme of the energy-transducing mitochondrial electron transport chain is a hetero-oligomeric, heme-copper oxidase complex composed of both mitochondrially and nuclear-encoded subunits. It is embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane where it couples the transfer of electrons from reduced ...

In vitro reconstitution reveals major differences between human and bacterial cytochrome c synthases
Cytochromes c are ubiquitous heme proteins in mitochondria and bacteria, all possessing a CXXCH (CysXxxXxxCysHis) motif with covalently attached heme. We describe the first in vitro reconstitution of cytochrome c biogenesis using purified mitochondrial ...

Selenite stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis signaling and enhances mitochondrial functional performance in murine hippocampal neuronal cells. [PDF]
Supplementation of selenium has been shown to protect cells against free radical mediated cell damage. The objectives of this study are to examine whether supplementation of selenium stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis signaling pathways and whether ...

Biogenesis of Cytochrome c in Neurospora crassa [PDF]
# 1. Precipitating antibodies specific for apocytochrome c and holocytochrome c, respectively, were employed to study synthesis and intracellular transport of cytochrome c in Neurospora in vitro. # 2.

Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Heme trafficking is a fundamental biological process, yet its direct study has been hampered due to heme’s tight intracellular regulation, heme cytotoxicity, and the transient nature of trafficking.

Bacterial cytochromes c biogenesis. [PDF]
We report the primary sequence analyses of two loci, hel and ccl, whose gene products are required specifically for the biogenesis of c-type cytochromes in the Gram-negative photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus. Genetic and molecular analyses show that the hel locus contains at least four genes, helA, helB, helC, and orf52, and the ccl locus

Adaptive mitochondrial mechanisms allow mitochondrial resilience and prevent the worsening of fibrosis, while deregulation of these mechanisms promotes the progression from no/minimal‐mild (F0‐F2) fibrosis to advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis (F3‐F4). Abstract Background and Aims Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes oxidative stress (OS) and alters ...

Brain Region Specificity of Mitochondrial Biogenesis and Bioenergetics Response to Nrf2 Knockdown: A Comparison Among Hippocampus, Prefrontal Cortex and Amygdala of Male Rat Brain [PDF]
Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) has been identified as the well-known coordinator of intracellular antioxidant defense system. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the effects of Nrf2 silencing on mitochondrial biogenesis markers peroxisome ...

Reperfusion promotes mitochondrial biogenesis following focal cerebral ischemia in rats. [PDF]
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Reperfusion after transient cerebral ischemia causes severe damage to mitochondria; however, little is known regarding the continuous change in mitochondrial biogenesis during reperfusion.
