The Behaviour of IL-6 and Its Soluble Receptor Complex during Different Waves of the COVID-19 Pandemic

open access: yesLife
In late December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 was identified as the cause of a new pneumonia (COVID-19), leading to a global pandemic declared by the WHO on 11 March 2020, with significant human, economic, and social costs.

Structures of complete extracellular assemblies of type I and type II Oncostatin M receptor complexes

open access: yesNature Communications
Oncostatin M (OSM) is a unique Interleukin 6 (IL-6) family cytokine that plays pivotal roles in numerous biological events by signaling via two types of receptor complexes.

Transcytosis of IL-11 and Apical Redirection of gp130 Is Mediated by IL-11α Receptor

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Interleukin (IL)-11 signaling is involved in various processes, including epithelial intestinal cell regeneration and embryo implantation. IL-11 signaling is initiated upon binding of IL-11 to IL-11R1 or IL-11R2, two IL-11α-receptor splice variants, and ...

Cytokine-Dependent gp130 Receptor Subunit Regulates Rat Modified Axial-Pattern Epigastric Flap

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Surgery, 2002
We investigated axial-pattern flap survival by modulating the cytokine receptor component, gp130, to elucidate the mechanism of the cytokine receptor modulation subsequently leading to the initiation of local angiogenesis and blood-flow augmentation. Fifty-two male Wistar rats were divided into four groups.

Selective loss of function variants in IL6ST cause Hyper-IgE syndrome with distinct impairments of T-cell phenotype and function

open access: yesHaematologica, 2019
Hyper-IgE syndromes comprise a group of inborn errors of immunity. STAT3-deficient hyper-IgE syndrome is characterized by elevated serum IgE levels, recurrent infections and eczema, and characteristic skeletal anomalies.

Cytokines and their receptors in cardiovascular diseases — role of gp130 signalling pathway in cardiac myocyte growth and maintenance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Experimental Pathology, 2000
Interleukin (IL)‐6‐related cytokines share gp130 as the signal‐transducing protein. Cardiac myocytes produce various kinds of cytokines including IL‐6 and cardiotrophin‐1. Activation of gp130 transduces hypertrophic and cytoprotective signals in cardiac myocytes via JAK/STAT, MAP kinase and PI‐3 kinase pathways.

Repurposing the selective estrogen receptor modulator bazedoxifene to suppress gastrointestinal cancer growth

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2019
Excessive signaling through gp130, the shared receptor for the interleukin (IL)6 family of cytokines, is a common hallmark in solid malignancies and promotes their progression.

Modulation of the IL-6-Signaling Pathway in Liver Cells by miRNAs Targeting gp130, JAK1, and/or STAT3

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Nucleic Acids, 2019
Interleukin-6 (IL-6)-type cytokines share the common receptor glycoprotein 130 (gp130), which activates a signaling cascade involving Janus kinases (JAKs) and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) transcription factors.

Unveiling novel insights into human IL-6 − IL-6R interaction sites through 3D computer-guided docking and systematic site mutagenesis

open access: yesScientific Reports
The cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays a crucial role in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Understanding the precise mechanism of IL-6 interaction at the amino acid level is essential to develop IL-6-inhibiting compounds.
