Rituximab induced cytokine release syndrome in an MS patient: A case report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2021
Cytokine release syndrome with rituximab has been reported in certain diseases, however, it is rarely reported in MS patients treated with rituximab. The treating physician should suspect the syndrome when typical signs and symptoms appear.

Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) and Nicotine in COVID-19 Patients: Trying to Calm the Storm

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
SARS-CoV-2 is a new coronavirus that has caused a worldwide pandemic. It causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (COVID-19), which is fatal in many cases, and is characterized by a cytokine release syndrome (CRS).

High Ferritin in a Critically ill COVID-19 Patient: The Calm before Cytokine Storm [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2020
Corona Virus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19) is spreading throughout the world and the United States with confirmed cases in all 50 states. Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), or cytokine storm, is being increasingly reported with severe cases of COVID-19 ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

DeltaRex-G, tumor targeted retrovector encoding a CCNG1 inhibitor, for CAR-T cell therapy induced cytokine release syndrome

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Medicine
Cytokine release syndrome is a serious complication of chimeric antigen receptor-T cell therapy and is triggered by excessive secretion of inflammatory cytokines by chimeric T cells which could be fatal. Following an inquiry into the molecular mechanisms

An interesting case of life-threatening COVID-19 pneumonia

open access: yesApollo Medicine, 2020
COVID-19 pneumonia requires intensive care unit admission in approximately 5% of patients. The treatment options are all experimental. We report a case of life-threatening COVID-19 pneumonia with cytokine release syndrome who had successful outcome with ...

A systematic review on the effects of Echinacea supplementation on cytokine levels: Is there a role in COVID-19?

open access: yesMetabolism Open, 2021
COVID-19 is the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. Cytokine storm appears to be a factor in COVID-19 mortality. Echinacea species have been used historically for immune modulation.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Does Vitamin D Supplementation Reduce Cytokine Storm and Mortality in Geriatric Intensive Care Patients Diagnosed with COVID-19

open access: yesJournal of Contemporary Medicine, 2022
Introduction: Coronavirus disease progresses from an asymptomatic stage to a fatal stage characterized by a cytokine storm. Therefore, treatment should focus on enhancing the patients’immune function and preventing cytokine release syndrome.
