Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Evaluation of the Prognostic Value of Obesity, Vitamin D Concentrations, and Systemic Inflammatory Response Indexes (SIRI, SII, PIV) in Patients With Breast Cancer Scheduled for Neoadjuvant Treatment

open access: yesBreast Cancer: Basic and Clinical Research
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine the prognostic utility of vitamin D concentrations and BMI (body mass index) values and the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), the systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) and the pan ...

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Liquid biopsy‐based diagnostic evaluation of hypermethylated CpG sites for ovarian cancer diagnosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This schematic outlines the workflow from biomarker identification to duplex MethyLight assay validation for epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis using cfDNA‐based liquid biopsy. Initial screening of hypermethylated CpG candidates (cg02957270, cg10061138 cg00480298, COL2A1) was performed in tissue using ARMS‐PCR, COBRA, qPCR and image analysis. Selected

Biophysical studies of cytokine receptor interactions

open access: yes, 2000
The IL-6 family of cytokines includes IL-6, ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), oncostatin M (OSM), cardiotrophin-1, and IL-11. Functioning in a pleiotropic and redundant manner, these cytokines play an important role in

Association of Vitamin D Receptor Gene Polymorphisms and Hypovitaminosis D with Reduced Bone Mineral Density in Survivors of Childhood Leukemia: A Study in Algerian Patients

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
Survivors of childhood leukemia are at increased risk of long-term skeletal complications, including reduced bone mineral density (BMD). Vitamin D deficiency and genetic variations in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene are important factors influencing ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Cytokines and Inflammatory Mediators in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterised by a breakdown in immune tolerance that induces an attack on normal tissues by the immune system.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.
