Cytosine-to-Uracil Deamination by SssI DNA Methyltransferase

open access: yes, 2013
The prokaryotic DNA(cytosine-5)methyltransferase M.SssI shares the specificity of eukaryotic DNA methyltransferases (CG) and is an important model and experimental tool in the study of eukaryotic DNA methylation.

Genetic analysis of the cardiac methylome at single nucleotide resolution in a model of human cardiovascular disease.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2014
Epigenetic marks such as cytosine methylation are important determinants of cellular and whole-body phenotypes. However, the extent of, and reasons for inter-individual differences in cytosine methylation, and their association with phenotypic variation ...

Methylation Status of Imprinted Genes and Repetitive Elements in Sperm DNA from Infertile Males [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Stochastic, environmentally and/or genetically induced disturbances in the genome-wide epigenetic reprogramming processes during male germ-cell development may contribute to male infertility.

5-Methylcytosine profiles in mouse transcriptomes suggest the randomness of m5C formation catalyzed by RNA methyltransferase

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2022
Objective 5-Methylcytosine (m5C) is a type of chemical modification on the nucleotides and is widespread in both DNA and RNA. Although the DNA m5C has been extensively studied over the past years, the distribution and biological function of RNA m5C still

Expression in mammalian cells of a cloned gene encoding murine DNA methyltransferase [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Mammalian DNA cytosine-5-methyltransferase (MTase, EC 2.1.1.37) is an essential component for establishing and maintaining cell-type specific methylation patterns in the genome. The cDNAfor the murine enzyme was previously cloned in segments.

AICDA drives epigenetic heterogeneity and accelerates germinal center-derived lymphomagenesis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
In diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) increased epigenetic heterogeneity in the form of cytosine methylation is known to link to a poor clinical outcome.

Transcriptional silencing of 35S driven-transgene is differentially determined depending on promoter methylation heterogeneity at specific cytosines in both plus- and minus-sense strands

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2019
Background De novo DNA methylation triggered by short interfering RNAs is called RNA-directed DNA methylation (RdDM). Transcriptional gene silencing (TGS) through RdDM can be induced using a viral vector.

Sodium Azide as a Chemical Mutagen in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.): Patterns of the Genetic and Epigenetic Effects with iPBS and CRED-iPBS Techniques

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
Wheat, which is scientifically known as Triticum aestivum L., is a very nutritious grain that serves as a key component of the human diet. The use of mutation breeding as a tool for crop improvement is a reasonably rapid procedure, and it generates a ...

Apoptosis and DNA methylation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Epigenetic mechanisms assist in maintaining gene expression patterns and cellular properties in developing and adult tissues. The molecular pathology of disease states frequently includes perturbation of DNA and histone methylation patterns, which can ...

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.
