Uncovering the Multifaceted Roles of DDX21: Bridging Biological Insights and Medical Applications

open access: yesJournal of Bio-X Research
DDX21 belongs to the DEAD-box (DDX) family of helicases but deviates from the characteristic sequence Asp–Glu–Ala–Asp (DEAD) to Asp–Glu–Val–Asp. In addition to the typical helicase activity associated with the DEAD-box family, DDX21 also possesses ...

Understanding exosomes in regenerative dentistry

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Regenerative dentistry is shifting from cell‐based strategies to cell‐free biologics capable of orchestrating intricate tissue repair. Exosomes, nanosized extracellular vesicles carrying bioactive molecular payloads, have emerged as central modulators of intercellular communication.

Cell Surface Markers Identify Astrocyte Subpopulations in the Adult Hippocampus With a Heterogeneous Response to Aging

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 11, November 2026.
ATP1B2 and GLAST identify two astrocyte subpopulations in the hippocampus with distinct molecular signatures. Transcriptomic shifts during aging differ between both subpopulations. Aged ATP1B2+ astrocytes rewire their metabolism while double‐positive aged astrocytes display a reduced synaptogenic capability.

Hitting Coronaviruses Where It Hurts: Antiviral Strategies Targeting Viral Proteins

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
Viral proteins represent key vulnerabilities in human coronaviruses (HCoVs). This review outlines inhibitors targeting spike (S), main protease (Mpro), papain‐like protease (PLpro), and RNA‐dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), mapping chemically diverse strategies that disrupt entry and replication, and provides an integrated view of current candidates ...

Kinetic Control of Condensate Function: How the Formation Dynamics of APBs Influence ALT Cancer Telomere Length Heterogeneity

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 48, Issue 10, October 2026.
The dynamics of PML body formation at telomeres in cancer cells using the alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) pathway for telomere elongation correlate with different degrees of ALT activity and might contribute to telomere length heterogeneity in ALT cancer cells.

Genomic and Phenotypic Characterization of Two Novel Enterobacter Phages With EDTA‐Enhanced Antibiofilm Activity

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Two novel lytic Enterobacter phages, HHH and RZH, displayed targeted antibiofilm activity against MDR Enterobacter cloacae complex biofilms when combined with EDTA. Activity was strongest within a narrow low‐millimolar EDTA window, reducing biofilm biomass and viable burden, while higher EDTA concentrations shifted the interaction towards antagonism ...

SART3 promotes homologous recombination repair by stimulating DNA-RNA hybrids removal and DNA end resection

open access: yesNature Communications
DNA–RNA hybrids triggered by double-strand breaks (DSBs) are crucial intermediates during DSB repair, and their timely resolution requires numbers of RNA helicases, including DEAD box 1 (DDX1).

Interrogating the Escherichia coli Epitranscriptome Via CRISPR Interference and Nanopore Native RNA Sequencing

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Epitranscriptomics is understudied in bacteria but has the ability to modulate antimicrobial resistance, virulence and pathogenicity. Pitt et al. implement two cutting‐edge techniques: CRISPR interference and Nanopore direct RNA sequencing along with functional assays to study RNA modifications in Escherichia coli.

Clinical and Molecular Features of BAP1‐Mutated Meningiomas: Case Series

open access: yesMolecular Carcinogenesis, Volume 65, Issue 10, Page 1343-1350, October 2026.
ABSTRACT BRCA1‐associated protein 1 (BAP1)‐deficient meningiomas represent a clinically and molecularly distinct subgroup with variable histology and aggressive behavior that may not be fully captured by current grading criteria. The clinical spectrum of BAP1 alterations in meningiomas, including both somatic and germline contexts, remains incompletely
