Delphinidin: A Multifaceted Anthocyanidin With Therapeutic Potential in Chronic Diseases

Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology
ABSTRACT Delphinidin, a bioactive anthocyanidin found in pigmented fruits and vegetables, exhibits remarkable therapeutic potential due to its antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and anti‐cancer properties. This review synthesizes current knowledge on delphinidin's structure, dietary sources, stability challenges, and mechanisms of action.

The effect of delphinidin on the mechanical properties of keratinocytes exposed to UVB radiation

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2016
The usage of active compounds of dietary phytochemicals in prevention of UV-induced skin diseases is increasingly gaining attention in the development of skin care products. The purpose of this study was to measure the influence of delphinidin (as a botanical agent) on the cell mechanical properties evaluated by the atomic force microscopy (AFM ...

New delphinidin glycosides isolated fromVinca major flowers

The Botanical Magazine Tokyo, 1978
Four kinds of delphinidin glycoside were found in the bluish-purple flowers ofVinca major. Among them, two glycosides were isolated in a crystalline state by application of Sephadex and Avicel columns. The names of vincanin A and vincanin B were tentatively assigned to those new glycosides.

Impact of Delphinidin on the Maintenance of DNA Integrity in Human Colon Carcinoma Cells

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2008
Delphinidin has been found to possess DNA strand-breaking properties in cell culture. In the present study, we demonstrated that the extent of DNA damage by delphinidin is not affected by the expression of tyrosyl-DNA-phosphodiesterase 1, indicating that the induction of DNA strand breaks is not predominantly topoisomerase-mediated.

An acylated delphinidin glycoside in the blue flowers of Evolvulus pilosus

Phytochemistry, 1994
Abstract A new acylated anthocyanin was isolated from the blue flowers of Evolvulus pilosus cv ‘Blue Daze’ as a major anthocyanin. The structure of this pigment was determined to be delphinidin 3- O -(6- O -( trans -4- O -(6- O -( trans -3- O -(β-d-glucopyranosyl)-caffeyl)-β-d-glucopyranosyl)-caffeyl)-β-d-glucopyranoside)-5- O -((6- O -malonyl)-β-d-

DNA Interaction with Naturally Occurring Antioxidant Flavonoids Quercetin, Kaempferol, and Delphinidin

Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 2005
Flavonoids are strong antioxidants that prevent DNA damage. The anticancer and antiviral activities of these natural products are implicated in their mechanism of actions. However, there has been no information on the interactions of these antioxidants with individual DNA at molecular level.

The Anthocyanidins Cyanidin and Delphinidin Are Potent Inhibitors of the Epidermal Growth-Factor Receptor

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2001
The aglycons of the most abundant anthocyanins in food, cyanidin (cy) and delphinidin (del), were found to inhibit the growth of human tumor cells in vitro in the micromolar range, whereas malvidin (mv), a typical anthocyanidin in grapes, was less active.

Effects of delphinidin on mitochondrial function in endothelial cells

2011
Delphinidine (delph), an anthocyanin with the same pharmacological pro¿ lethan the total extract of red wine polyphenol, induces vasodilatation and possessanti-apoptotic property in endothelial cells (ECs) by mechanism involving nitricoxide (NO). The later can regulate mitochondrial (mt) function.
