Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

BackgroundFactor H-related protein 5 (FHR-5) is a member of the complement Factor H protein family. Due to the homology to Factor H, the main complement regulator of the alternative pathway, it may also be implicated in the pathomechanism of kidney ...

H deficiency in two brothers with atypical dense intramembranous deposit disease
H deficiency in two brothers with atypical dense intramembranous deposit disease. We report an H deficiency in two Algerian brothers who had early–onset glomerulonephritis. In addition, one suffered from serious lung infections.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Eculizumab in C3 Glomerulopathy: A Systematic Review of Therapeutic Efficacy and Clinical Outcomes
Background: C3 glomerulopathies (C3G), including dense deposit disease (DDD) and C3 glomerulonephritis (C3GN), are rare kidney disorders driven by dysregulation of the alternative complement pathway.

Function and Dysfunction of Complement Factor H During Formation of Lipid-Rich Deposits
Complement-mediated inflammation or dysregulation in lipid metabolism are associated with the pathogenesis of several diseases. These include age-related macular degeneration (AMD), C3 glomerulonephritis (C3GN), dense deposit disease (DDD ...

Human factor H-related protein 2 (CFHR2) regulates complement activation. [PDF]
Mutations and deletions within the human CFHR gene cluster on chromosome 1 are associated with diseases, such as dense deposit disease, CFHR nephropathy or age-related macular degeneration. Resulting mutant CFHR proteins can affect complement regulation.

Dense deposit disease with steroid pulse therapy [PDF]
Treatment of dense deposit disease(DDD) has not been established yet. Steroid therapy is considered as ineffective for DDD. We report an 8-year-old girl with DDD in whom steroid pulse therapy with subsequent oral steroid therapy led to disease remission.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...
