The impact of the cyanobacterial carbon‐regulator protein SbtB and of the second messengers cAMP and c‐di‐AMP on CO2‐dependent gene expression

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 234, Issue 5, Page 1801-1816, June 2022., 2022
Summary The amount of inorganic carbon (Ci) fluctuates in aquatic environments. Cyanobacteria evolved a Ci‐concentrating mechanism (CCM) that is regulated at different levels. The regulator SbtB binds to the second messengers cAMP or c‐di‐AMP and is involved in acclimation to low Ci (LC) in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803.

C-di-AMP Is a Second Messenger in Corynebacterium glutamicum That Regulates Expression of a Cell Wall-Related Peptidase via a Riboswitch

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Cyclic di-adenosine monophosphate (c-di-AMP) is a bacterial second messenger discovered in Bacillus subtilis and involved in potassium homeostasis, cell wall maintenance and/or DNA stress response.

CdrS Is a Global Transcriptional Regulator Influencing Cell Division in Haloferax volcanii

open access: yesmBio, 2021
Transcriptional regulators that integrate cellular and environmental signals to control cell division are well known in bacteria and eukaryotes, but their existence is poorly understood in archaea.

Гетерологичная экспрессия диаденилатциклазы в виде телец включения, обладающих ферментативной активностью [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Using the DNA recombination technique, a new bacterial strain Escherichia coli DAC-22 was derived, whose cells are able to carry out the heterologous expression of Bacillus thuringiensis diadenylate cyclase – the enzyme catalyzing the reaction of ...

New Mechanistic Insights into Purine Biosynthesis with Second Messenger c-di-AMP in Relation to Biofilm-Related Persistent Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections

open access: yesmBio, 2021
Persistent methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) endovascular infections represent a significant clinically challenging subset of invasive, life-threatening S. aureus infections.

C-di-AMP levels modulate Staphylococcus aureus cell wall thickness, response to oxidative stress, and antibiotic resistance and tolerance

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Beta-lactam antibiotics are widely used to treat infections caused by the important human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. Resistance to beta-lactams, as found in methicillin-resistant S. aureus, renders effective treatment difficult. The second messenger

Molecular analysis of mammalian adenylyl cyclases and bacterial adenylyl cyclase toxins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The cAMP signaling pathway is crucial for many physiological processes and many disease states like neurodegenerative diseases, mood disorders, pain, drug dependency or heart failure.

Identification of the Components Involved in Cyclic Di-AMP Signaling in Mycoplasma pneumoniae

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Bacteria often use cyclic dinucleotides as second messengers for signal transduction. While the classical molecule c-di-GMP is involved in lifestyle selection, the functions of the more recently discovered signaling nucleotide cyclic di-AMP are less ...

Cyclic Di-adenosine Monophosphate Regulates Metabolism and Growth in the Oral Commensal Streptococcus mitis

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Cyclic di-adenosine monophosphate (c-di-AMP) has emerged as an important bacterial signaling molecule that functions both as an intracellular second messenger in bacterial cells and an extracellular ligand involved in bacteria-host cross-talk.

Identification of the main glutamine and glutamate transporters in Staphylococcus aureus and their impact on c‐di‐AMP production

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 113, Issue 6, Page 1085-1100, June 2020., 2020
A large number of amino acid transporters and oligopeptide permeases are encoded in bacterial genomes. However, their actual substrate specificity and functions are hard to predict bioinformatically. In this study, we report that GltS and AlsT are main glutamate and glutamine transporters in Staphylococcus aureus, respectively, and show that glutamine ...
