A prebiotic basis for ATP as the universal energy currency

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2022
ATP is universally conserved as the principal energy currency in cells, driving metabolism through phosphorylation and condensation reactions. Such deep conservation suggests that ATP arose at an early stage of biochemical evolution. Yet purine synthesis

PrEP at the site of action in cisgender and transgender women: A pharmacology study of blood and rectal CD4+ lymphocytes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background Female sex hormones used in feminizing hormone therapy (FHT) may influence activation and persistence of HIV pre‐exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications. The clinical relevance of this interaction remains unclear, particularly for transgender and cisgender women (TGW and CGW).

Metabolic engineering of Escherichia coli for production of mixed isoprenoid alcohols and their derivatives

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2018
Background Current petroleum-derived fuels such as gasoline (C5–C12) and diesel (C15–C22) are complex mixtures of hydrocarbons with different chain lengths and chemical structures.

Pharmacokinetic Assessment of Atazanavir and Favipiravir Following Echinacea Supplementation: A Controlled Herb–Drug Interaction Investigation

open access: yesBiopharmaceutics &Drug Disposition, EarlyView.
Pharmacokinetic interactions between Echinacea and two antiviral drugs, favipiravir and atazanavir, were assessed in rats. The findings suggest that Echinacea does not significantly affect the pharmacokinetics of favipiravir and atazanavir. These results provide preliminary evidence that concurrent use of Echinacea with these antiviral drugs may be ...

Interference of Nucleoside Diphosphates and Inorganic Phosphate with Nucleoside‐Triphosphate‐Dependent Calcium Fluxes and Calcium‐Dependent Nucleoside‐Triphosphate Hydrolysis in Membranes of Sarcoplasmic‐Reticulum Vesicles

open access: yes, 1981
Calcium fluxes across the membranes of the sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles supported by ATP and by GTP were analyzed with respect to the effects of the reaction products nucleoside diphosphate, Pi and intravesicular calcium. Calcium fluxes and hydrolysis

Comparison of the stabilities and solution structures of metal ion complexes formed with 5'-di- and 5'-triphosphates of purine nucleosides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Nucleotides and metal ions are involved in the basic metabolic processes of life, participating as substrates in enzymatic reactions in the form of metal ion complexes.

A Modular Nucleoside Kinase Cascade for the Synthesis of Ribonucleoside Triphosphates

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
Damm et al. report standardized enzymatic cascades for production of all canonical nucleoside triphosphates from the corresponding nucleosides, using kinase‐catalyzed phosphorylation from acetyl phosphate. Reactions afforded ∼ 100 mM product in near‐quantitative conversion.

Tribological Properties of Alkylphenyl Diphosphates as High-Performance Antiwear Additive in Lithium Complex Grease and Polyurea Grease for Steel/Steel Contacts at Elevated Temperature

open access: yes, 2016
The alkylphenyl diphosphates pentaerythritol tetrakis(diphenyl phosphate) (PDP) and trimethylolpropane tris(diphenyl phosphate) (TDP) were evaluated as the antiwear additives in lithium complex grease and polyurea grease at 200 °C.

Biomaterial design strategies for enhancing mitochondrial transplantation therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Biomaterials to facilitate mitochondrial transplantation therapy: biomaterials as barriers to protect mitochondria from pathophysiological microenvironments, like osmotic stress caused by the excessive concentration of calcium ion, reactive oxygen species, and advanced glycation end products; biomaterials integrating with biochemical cues to improve ...

The Property of a Key Amino Acid Determines the Function of Farnesyl Pyrophosphate Synthase in Sporobolomyces pararoseus NGR

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
Farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPPS) catalyzes the synthesis of C15 farnesyl diphosphate (FPP) from C5 dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP) and two or three C5 isopentenyl diphosphates (IPPs). FPP is an important precursor for the synthesis of isoprenoids
