Cerebellar liponeurocytoma in an elderly patient: DNA methylation profiling as a helpful diagnostic tool

open access: yes, 2022
Aim: Cerebellar liponeurocytoma is a rare primary cerebellar neoplasm that mostly occurs in adults, however, it is rare in the elderly. Materials and methods: We report, in a 79-year-old female, a recurrent vermian cerebellar mass that was previously ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Primary carcinoid tumor of the testis: immunohistochemical, ultrastructural and DNA flow cytometric study of two cases

open access: yes, 1999
Primary testicular carcinoid tumor, occupying 0.23% of testicular neoplasm, is a rare and indolent neoplasm with the potential for distant metastasis. We present two cases of primary pure carcinoid tumor of the testis.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm: From the origin of the cell to targeted therapies; Review

open access: yes, 2016
International audienceBlastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematological malignancy with an aggressive clinical course. It is grouped with acute myeloid leukemia–related precursor neoplasms in the 2008 World Health Organization ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

The influence of methyl donor status on cervical cancer cell behaviour in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Epidemiological studies suggest that the availability of methyl-donor nutrients may influence the risk of cervical cancer and of cancer progression. This effect may be mediated by altered DNA instability and aberrant DNA methylation.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Higher methylation subtype of malignant melanoma and its correlation with thicker progression and worse prognosis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2020
Malignant melanoma (MM) is the most life‐threatening disease among all skin malignancies, and recent genome‐wide studies reported BRAF, RAS, and NF1 as the most frequently mutated driver genes.
