Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

"Plasmodium falciparum" Drug Resistance, Molecular Genotyping and Generation of a Malaria Resistance Genogram by DNA Microarray-Based Technology [PDF]
Prior to the 2001 malarial treatment policy change in Tanzania, studies were conducted to assess the efficacy of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) and usefulness of molecular markers in monitoring SP resistance.

Left-Sided Endocarditis Associated with Multi-Drug Resistance Acinetobacter Lwoffii [PDF]
Acinetobacter lwoffii, an important nosocomial pathogen, is a gram-negative aerobic bacillus that is a component of the normal flora on the skin, oropharynx, and perineum of about 20-25% of healthy individuals.

The multidrug-resistance (MDR) phenotype expressed in mammalian cell lines is complex. A cell selected with a single agent can acquire cross-resistance to a remarkably wide range of compounds which have no structural or functional similarities. The basis for cross-resistance seems to be a decreased net cellular accumulation of the drugs involved, and ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Understanding cisplatin resistance using cellular models [PDF]
Many mechanisms of cisplatin resistance have been proposed from studies of cellular models of resistance including changes in cellular drug accumulation, detoxification of the drug, inhibition of apoptosis and repair of the DNA adducts.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Intra-Vesical Colistin for Pseudomonas aeruginosa Urinary Tract Infections
The numbers of multiple drug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections are rising worldwide. The threat is increased by the lack of new antibiotics, so clinicians are turning to older drugs previously abandoned due to their recognized toxicity, such ...
