TUBERCULOSIS WITH MULTIDRUG-RESISTANT AND EXTENSIVELY DRUG-RESISTANT OF MICOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

open access: yesПаёми Сино, 2018
Objective: To assess the epidemic situation in the Russian Federation on tuberculosis with multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant (MDR, XDR) of the pathogen and the effectiveness of its treatment.

Modulation of PKM alternative splicing by PTBP1 promotes gemcitabine resistance in pancreatic cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive and incurable disease. Poor prognosis is due to multiple reasons, including acquisition of resistance to gemcitabine, the first-line chemotherapeutic approach.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Intra-Vesical Colistin for Pseudomonas aeruginosa Urinary Tract Infections

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine, 2019
The numbers of multiple drug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections are rising worldwide. The threat is increased by the lack of new antibiotics, so clinicians are turning to older drugs previously abandoned due to their recognized toxicity, such ...

Molar ratios of therapeutic water-soluble phenothiazine⋅water-insoluble phospholipid adducts reveal a Fibonacci correlation and a putative link for structure–activity relationships [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The fact that non-antibiotics can sensitise microorganisms for antibiotic treatment suggests that these molecules have valuable potential to treat multiple drug resistance.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Promising Anti-Mitochondrial Agents for Overcoming Acquired Drug Resistance in Multiple Myeloma

open access: yesCells, 2021
Multiple myeloma (MM) remains an incurable tumor due to the high rate of relapse that still occurs. Acquired drug resistance represents the most challenging obstacle to the extension of survival and several studies have been conducted to understand the ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Understanding and targeting resistance mechanisms in cancer

open access: yesMedComm, 2023
Resistance to cancer therapies has been a commonly observed phenomenon in clinical practice, which is one of the major causes of treatment failure and poor patient survival. The reduced responsiveness of cancer cells is a multifaceted phenomenon that can

Understanding the evolution of multiple drug resistance in structured populations

open access: yeseLife, 2021
The evolution of multidrug resistance (MDR) is a pressing public health concern. Yet many aspects, such as the role played by population structure, remain poorly understood.
