Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Toolkits for detailed and high-throughput interrogation of synapses in C. elegans

open access: yeseLife
Visualizing synaptic connectivity has traditionally relied on time-consuming electron microscopy-based imaging approaches. To scale the analysis of synaptic connectivity, fluorescent protein-based techniques have been established, ranging from the ...

Brevican “nets” voltage-gated calcium channels at the hair cell ribbon synapse

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2018
During hearing in mammals, “sensorineural” inner hair cells convert sound wave-generated mechanical input into electrical activity, resulting in glutamate release onto type I spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) at specialized synapses known as “ribbon ...

Resistive communications based on neuristors

open access: yes, 2017
Memristors are passive elements that allow us to store information using a single element per bit. However, this is not the only utility of the memristor.

Neuromorphic Electronics for Intelligence Everywhere: Emerging Devices, Flexible Platforms, and Scalable System Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The perspective presents an integrated view of neuromorphic technologies, from device physics to real‐time applicability, while highlighting the necessity of full‐stack co‐optimization. By outlining practical hardware‐level strategies to exploit device behavior and mitigate non‐idealities, it shows pathways for building efficient, scalable, and ...

GENETIC METHOD FOR LABELING ELECTRICALLY COUPLED CELLS: APPLICATION TO RETINA

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2016
Understanding how the nervous system functions requires mapping synaptic connections between neurons. Several methods are available for imaging neurons connected by chemical synapses, but few enable marking neurons connected by electrical synapses. Here,

Path‐Decoupled Cation‐Eutaxy III–V van der Waals Memristive Semiconductors for Mitigating the Neuromorphic Accuracy‐Energy Trade‐off

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Path‐decoupled III–V van der Waals memtransistors spatially separate ionic and electronic transport to overcome the conventional trade‐off between accuracy and energy in neuromorphic hardware. Mobile K+ ions in the vdW gaps set a wide conductance window, Gmax/Gmin, while gate‐tunable hole conduction lowers programming energy, enabling reliable ...

On the role of chemical synapses in coupled neurons with noise

open access: yes, 2005
We examine the behavior in the presence of noise of an array of Morris-Lecar neurons coupled via chemical synapses. Special attention is devoted to comparing this behavior with the better known case of electrical coupling arising via gap junctions.

Record High Polarization at 2 V and Imprint‐Free Operation in Superlattice HfO2‐ZrO2 by Proper Tuning of Ferro and Antiferroelectricity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Low‐power ferroelectric capacitors, based on superlattice HfO2‐ZrO2 is reported. With proper tuning of ferro and antiferroelectricity, an imprint‐free high switchable polarization charge (2Pr of 76 µC/cm2) is obtained with 2MV/cm leading to linear analog weight update and non‐volatile retention, providing a design guideline for emerging non‐volatile ...

An Online Structural Plasticity Rule for Generating Better Reservoirs

open access: yes, 2016
In this article, a novel neuro-inspired low-resolution online unsupervised learning rule is proposed to train the reservoir or liquid of Liquid State Machine. The liquid is a sparsely interconnected huge recurrent network of spiking neurons. The proposed
