Adenosine A2A receptor modulation of hippocampal CA3-CA1 synapse plasticity during associative learning in behaving mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
© 2009 Nature Publishing Group All rights reservedPrevious in vitro studies have characterized the electrophysiological and molecular signaling pathways of adenosine tonic modulation on long-lasting synaptic plasticity events, particularly for

Electrical coupling regulates layer 1 interneuron microcircuit formation in the neocortex

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Electrical and chemical synapses coexist in neocortex interneurons. Here, Yao et al. show that during development, electrical and GABAergic chemical synapses form at the same time, and that this coupling synchronizes firing between layer 1 interneurons.

Mixed electrical-chemical synapses in adult rat hippocampus are primarily glutamatergic and coupled by connexin-36

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2012
Dendrodendritic electrical signaling via gap junctions is now an accepted feature of neuronal communication in the mammalian brain, whereas axodendritic and axosomatic gap junctions have rarely been described.

Effects of Propofol on Electrical Synaptic Strength in Coupling Reticular Thalamic GABAergic Parvalbumin-Expressing Neurons

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
Electrical synapses between neurons exhibit a high degree of plasticity, which makes critical contributions to neuronal communication. The GABAergic parvalbumin-expressing (PV+) neurons in the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) interact with each other ...

Electrical Synapses in the Thalamic Reticular Nucleus [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 2002
Neurons of the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) provide inhibitory input to thalamic relay cells and generate synchronized activity during sleep and seizures. It is widely assumed that TRN cells interact only via chemical synaptic connections. However, we show that many neighboring pairs of TRN neurons in rats and mice are electrically coupled.

Recovery kinetics of short-term depression of GABAergic and glutamatergic synapses at layer 2/3 pyramidal cells in the mouse barrel cortex

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2023
IntroductionShort-term synaptic plasticity (STP) is a widespread mechanism underlying activity-dependent modifications of cortical networks.MethodsTo investigate how STP influences excitatory and inhibitory synapses in layer 2/3 of mouse barrel cortex ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Integration of Low‐Voltage Nanoscale MoS2 Memristors on CMOS Microchips

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the first monolithic integration of nanoscale MoS2‐based memristors into the back‐end‐of‐line of foundry‐fabricated CMOS microchips in a one‐transistor‐one‐resistor (1T1R) architecture. The MoS2‐based 1T1R cells exhibit forming‐free, nonvolatile resistive switching with ultra‐low operating voltages, low cycle‐to‐cycle variability ...

Gap junctions fine-tune ganglion cell signals to equalize response kinetics within a given electrically coupled array

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) summate inputs and forward a spike train code to the brain in the form of either maintained spiking (sustained) or a quickly decaying brief spike burst (transient).

Analog weight buffering strategy for CNN chips [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Large, gray-scale CNN chips employ analog signals to achieve high-density in the internal distribution of the template parameters. Despite the design strategies adopted at the circuitry employed to implement the weights, accuracy is ultimately limited by
