Endocannabinoid Receptor Pharmacology

2009
This chapter will review the basic pharmacology of endocannabinoid receptors. As the best-described cannabinoid receptors are G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), those will be the focus of this chapter. We will start with a basic review of GPCR signaling, as these concepts are critical to understanding the function of cannabinoid receptors.

Endocannabinoids

2007
Abstract The endocannabinoids are part of a large family of lipid signaling molecules derived from arachidonic acid, including the prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are important mediators of inflammation. Far less is known about the newer members of the endocannabinoid group, and it remains unclear whether they all play important ...

Endocannabinoids and Obesity

2013
A safe and effective antiobesity drug is needed to combat the global obesity epidemic. The discovery of cannabinoids from medicinal herbs has revealed the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in animals and humans, which regulates various physiological activities such as feeding, thermogenesis, and body weight (BW).

The Endocannabinoid System

Pharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, 2006
The endocannabinoid system is a complex physiologic system. One of the most important discoveries related to the endocannabinoid system is that cannabinoid‐1 receptors are present throughout the body and that they are linked to obesity and cardiometabolic risk. Adipose tissue was historically thought to be an inert, passive storage vehicle.
