Endogenous Viral Etiology of Prion Diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), or prion diseases, are a group of incurable neurodegenerative disorders, including Kuru and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans, “mad cow” disease in cattle, and scrapie in sheep. This paper

Gain-of-function oncogenic mutations in TP53 enhance defined factor-mediated cellular reprogramming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cancer is a disorder with various genetic and epigenetic alterations. Genetic alterations such as mutations, i.e., substitutions, amplifications, and deletions of nucleotide sequences, are largely irreversible, whereas epigenetic alterations can be ...

Expanding the Fish‐Brain Invitrome With the Senegalese Sole SsB‐1 Cell Line—A Versatile Model for Neurotropic Virus Research

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cell lines are essential tools for studying animal physiology and immunopathology, reducing the use of live animals and supporting the 3Rs principle of reduction, refinement, and replacement. The Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis), a relevant species for Spanish aquaculture diversification, lacks established in vitro models. We developed SsB‐

MARCH1 protects the lipid raft and tetraspanin web from MHCII proteotoxicity in dendritic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Dendritic cells (DCs) produce major histocompatibility complex II (MHCII) in large amounts to function as professional antigen presenting cells. Paradoxically, DCs also ubiquitinate and degrade MHCII in a constitutive manner.

A Natural LTR Retrotransposon Insertion in the Promoter of GhNAC140‐Dt Boosts Cotton Lint Yield

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Transposable elements (TEs) are fundamental drivers of crop evolution and domestication. Whereas the underlying mechanisms of TE‐mediated gene activation remain poorly understood. Lint percentage is an important yield component in cotton. Here, we report a retrotransposon insertion in the promoter of GhNAC140‐Dt, a secondary wall NAC encoding ...

IN VITRO INDUCTION OF BLOOD MONONUCLEAR CELL PROLIFERATION BY ENDOGENOUS RETROVIRAL HERV-Eλ4-1 ENVELOPE PEPTIDE IN PATIENTS WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

open access: yesМедицинская иммунология, 2014
A comparative in vitro study of blood mononuclear cells from multiple sclerosis patients and healthy donors was performed, in order to evaluate proliferative response to a retroviral antigen, aiming to determine immunomodulatory properties of synthetic ...

Safe and Localized Lentiviral Gene Delivery via Injectable Mesoporous Scaffolds for Potent Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 25, 4 May 2026.
This work introduces an injectable mesoporous silica rod scaffold that confines lentiviral vectors to the injection site, enabling localized dendritic cell recruitment and transduction. The platform sustains antigen expression, promotes robust T‐cell activation, and enhances antitumor immunity.

Genome-wide characterization and comparison of endogenous retroviruses among 3 duck reference genomes

open access: yesPoultry Science
: Endogenous retroviruses (ERV) are viral genomes integrated into the host genome and can be stably inherited. Although ERV sequences have been reported in some avian species’ genome, the duck endogenous retroviruses (DERV) genome has yet to be ...

Quality Evaluation Considerations for Stem Cell‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles‐Based Therapeutic Products in China

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Stem cell therapy is currently undergoing clinical research in China for conditions that are resistant to or incurable by traditional pharmaceutical interventions. Stem cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) exhibit therapeutic effects similar to those of their parent stem cells, positioning them as an alternative or adjunctive approach to ...
