High water intake induces primary cilium elongation in renal tubular cells [PDF]

open access: yesKidney Research and Clinical Practice
Background The primary cilium protrudes from the cell surface and functions as a mechanosensor. Recently, we found that water intake restriction shortens the primary cilia of renal tubular cells, and a blockage of the shortening disturbs the ability of ...

A model checking approach to the parameter estimation of biochemical pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Model checking has historically been an important tool to verify models of a wide variety of systems. Typically a model has to exhibit certain properties to be classed ‘acceptable’.

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Mass Driver Design Traveling Earth to the Moon

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In this article, the flight of a mass driver was designed for launch from the Earth with Electro Magnetic Space Launching System (EMSLS). Then the orbit exit from the Earth at 185 km and orbit entry the Moon at 100kmwere examined with respect to change ...

A constitutive active MAPK/ERK pathway due to BRAFV600E positively regulates AHR pathway in PTC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand-activated transcription factor mediating the toxicity and tumor-promoting properties of dioxin. AHR has been reported to be overexpressed and constitutively active in a variety of solid tumors, but few data

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Exercise and Nano-curcumin supplementation mediates cross-talk between MAPK/ERK signaling in the regulation of inflammatory disease [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Exercise & Organ Cross Talk
Impaired cell internal settings and excessive proliferation causes the occurrence of diverse ranges of syndrom and diseases. The pathological stress underlying these conditions triggers persistent flux through multiple intracellular signaling pathways ...

Seminal plasma and prostaglandin E2 up-regulate fibroblast growth factor 2 expression in endometrial adenocarcinoma cells via E-series prostanoid-2 receptor-mediated transactivation of the epidermal growth factor receptor and extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We report a multiwavelength (X-ray, ultraviolet/optical/infrared, radio) analysis of the relativistic tidal disruption event candidate Sw J2058+05 from 3 months to 3 yr post-discovery in order to study its properties and compare its behavior with that of

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

STIM1, PKC-δ and RasGRP set a threshold for proapoptotic Erk signaling during B cell development. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Clonal deletion of autoreactive B cells is crucial for the prevention of autoimmunity, but the signaling mechanisms that regulate this checkpoint remain undefined. Here we characterize a previously unrecognized Ca(2+)-driven pathway for activation of the
