Pigment Epithelium‐Derived Factor Deficiency Impairs Hippocampal Glutamate Homeostasis and Cognitive Function by Downregulating Astrocytic GLT‐1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The chronic glutamate‐induced excitotoxicity hypothesis has profoundly informed the therapeutic strategies employed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This study shows pigment epithelium‐derived factor (PEDF) regulates astrocytic glutamate transporter‐1 (GLT‐1)‐mediated glutamate homeostasis and cognition. Reduced PEDF correlates with lower Mini‐Mental State

Comparison of FGF-8, FGF-10, FGF-Receptor 2, Androgen Receptor, Estrogen Receptor-A and SS in Healthy and Hypospadiac Children

open access: yesBalkan Journal of Medical Genetics
In this study, we aimed to investigate the levels of Fibroblast Growth Factor-8 (FGF-8), FGF-10, FGF-Receptor-2 (FGFR-2), Androgen receptor (AR), Estrogen receptor alpha and beta (ER-α and ER-β) in the foreskins of children with and without hypospadias.

Estrous behavior in dairy cows: identification of underlying mechanisms and gene functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Selection in dairy cattle for a higher milk yield has coincided with declined fertility. One of the factors is reduced expression of estrous behavior. Changes in systems that regulate the estrous behavior could be manifested by altered gene expression ...

Integrative Omics Reveals Glutamine Catabolism‐Driven Apoptotic Suppression in Monocytes upon Mechanical Unloading

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research integrated multi‐omics analysis of bone tissue from HLU and control mice revealed that mechanical unloading suppresses intrinsic apoptosis and augments glutamine (Gln) catabolism in osteoclast lineage cells. The findings highlight pivotal roles for SLC1A5‐mediated Gln metabolism and XIAP/Diablo axis‐mediated apoptosis suppression.

Gene expression of estrogen receptor during different stages of pregnancy in rats model [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences
One essential organ that steroid hormones target is the uterus and ovaries. Many receptors mediate the effects of these hormones such as estrogen receptors ER.

Life Factors and Melanoma: From the Macroscopic State to the Molecular Mechanism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer, arises from dynamic interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. This review explores how age, gender, obesity, diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol, UV exposure, circadian rhythms, and medications influence melanoma risk and progression.

The protective role of estrogen and estrogen receptors in cardiovascular disease and the controversial use of estrogen therapy

open access: yesBiology of Sex Differences, 2017
Epidemiologic studies have previously suggested that premenopausal females have reduced incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) when compared to age-matched males, and the incidence and severity of CVD increases postmenopause.

Estrogenic activity, race/ethnicity, and Indigenous American ancestry among San Francisco Bay Area women. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Estrogens play a significant role in breast cancer development and are not only produced endogenously, but are also mimicked by estrogen-like compounds from environmental exposures.

Endothelial BMP6 Drives Hemodynamic‐Dependent VSMCs Calcification in Carotid Atherosclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study demonstrates that endothelial cell (EC)‐derived BMP6 promotes the osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) through cell‐cell interactions. Additionally, the researchers preliminarily explore the driving effect of hemodynamic factors on BMP6‐induced calcification and reveal the regulatory role of KLF4 on BMP6.
