Effects of Biological Sex and Age on Cerebrospinal Fluid Markers—A Retrospective Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis is a key diagnostic tool for neurological diseases. To date, only a few studies have investigated in larger cohorts the effect of age and biological sex on diagnostic markers extracted from CSF. Methods For this retrospective observational study, 4163 CSF findings (2012–2020) were evaluated.

Sensory nerve conduction in the caudal nerves of rats with diabetes Condução nervosa sensorial no nervo caudal de ratos com diabetes experimental

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2011
PURPOSE: To investigate sensory nerve conduction of the caudal nerve in normal and diabetic rats. METHODS: Diabetes was induced in twenty 8-weeks old Wistar male rats. Twenty normal rats served as controls.

Structural changes in intestinal enteroendocrine cells after ileal interposition in normal rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
INTRODUCTION: No therapeutic approach has significantly impacted the progression of diabetes. As early improvement of glicaemic control is observed after bariatric surgeries, there is currently a search for surgical procedures that can promote euglycemia

Reperfusion‐Dependent Outcomes After Endovascular Thrombectomy Stratified by NIHSS‐ASPECTS Clinical‐Core Mismatch

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This analysis evaluates the effect of successful reperfusion on functional outcomes after MT, stratified by admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) as surrogates for clinical‐core mismatch, using multicenter registry data.

Reduction of podocytes number in late diabetic alloxan nephropathy: prevention by glycemic control Redução do número de podócitos na fase tardia da nefropatia diabética aloxânica: prevenção pelo controle glicêmico

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2007
PURPOSE: To determine podocyte number and GBM thickness in diabetic rats either under glycemic control or without glycemic control at 6 and 12 months after diabetes induction.

Renal hypertrophy in experimental diabetes mellitus

open access: yesKidney International, 1983
The kidney changes seen in rats shortly after the induction of experimental diabetes were reviewed: Kidney weight increases by 15 to 20% during the first 4 to 5 days of diabetes and by 70 to 90% after some weeks. GFR increases after a lag-time of some days in parallel to kidney weight.

IV Thrombolysis Facilitates Interventional Reperfusion in Non‐Cardioembolic but Not Cardioembolic Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) before thrombectomy for ischemic stroke may alter clot structure and procedural performance. We investigated how IVT relates to thrombectomy metrics across stroke etiologies. Methods We performed a time‐to‐event analysis of consecutive patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (acLVO ...

Gestational diabetes induces neuronal loss in dentate gyrus in rat offspring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: This study was conducted to determine the effect of gestational diabetes on neuronal density in the dentate gyrus (DG) subfields of hippocampus in rats offspring. Methods: On day 1 of gestation, 10 dams randomly allocated into two control and
