Cytotoxic phenylpropanoid glycosides from Fagopyrum tataricum (L.) Gaertn
Food Chemistry, 2012Fagopyrum tataricum (L.) Gaertn (tartary buckwheat) is an ancient dicotyledonous crop belonging to Polygonaceae family. Besides its benefits for human consumption, tartary buckwheat is also an important folk medicine in China for its antioxidant, antitumour, hypotensive, hypoglycaemic and hypolipidaemic activities.

Visualization of Fagopyrum esculentum and Fagopyrum tataricum Chromosomes and Micronuclei
This chapter presents the squash chromosome preparation technique for Fagopyrum esculentum and F. tataricum, using the root tips as the source of the material. Using an optimized version of this method, the chromosomes are free of cytoplasmic debris and are spread evenly on the glass slide.Reneé, Pérez-Pérez +1 more

The aim of our work was to determine and to compare the possible antigenotoxic effect of methanolic extracts of common buckwheat (CB) and Tartary buckwheat (TB) flour, containing naturally present rutin (R), and quercetin (Q), and of R and Q in chemical form, against tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) induced DNA damage in human hepatoma cell line ...

Tartary buckwheat achenes are rich in rutin. However, its utilisation as a food is low due to the bitter taste of the products because of the transformation of rutin to quercetin. The aim of this study was to determine the stability of rutin and selected flavonoids, which are influenced by the different sample preparations exposing the achenes to ...

AbstractBuckwheat grain has well‐balanced nutritional value, whereas its digestibility is relatively low. This review summarizes recent advances in studies on the hypolipidemic activity of buckwheat. The most remarkable function is a powerful hypocholesterolemic activity of buckwheat protein in rats, which is far stronger than that of soy protein.

Immunocytochemical studies of the cell wall are used to visualize specific epitopes of pectins, arabinogalactan proteins, hemicelluloses, extensins, and other wall components using specific primary antibodies. This reaction, combined with calcofluor staining, allows to comprehend how the cell wall is rebuilt during the protoplast culture.

Immunohistochemistry is a method that allows the detection of individual components of cell walls in an extremely precise way at the level of a single cell and wall domains. The cell wall antibodies detect specific epitopes of pectins, arabinogalactan proteins (AGP), hemicelluloses, and extensins.
