Total Solid-Phase Synthesis of Dehydroxy Fengycin Derivatives [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
A rapid and efficient solid-phase strategy for the synthesis of dehydroxy fengycins derivatives is described. This synthetic approach involved the linkage of a Tyr to a Wang resin via a Mitsunobu reaction and the elongation of the peptide sequence followed by subsequent acylation of the N-terminus of the resulting linear peptidyl resin, esterification ...

The Iturin and Fengycin Families of Lipopeptides Are Key Factors in Antagonism of Bacillus subtilis Toward Podosphaera fusca [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Podosphaera fusca is the main causal agent of cucurbit powdery mildew in Spain. Four Bacillus subtilis strains, UMAF6614, UMAF6619, UMAF6639, and UMAF8561, with proven ability to suppress the disease on melon in detached leaf and seedling assays, were ...

Lipopeptide overproduction by cell immobilization on iron-enriched light polymer particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The study concerns surfactin and/or fengycin batch production by immobilized cells of Bacillus subtilis ATCC 21332. Light carriers designed for a three phase inverse fluidized bed biofilm reactor (TPFIBR) were used.

Systemically engineering Bacillus amyloliquefaciens for increasing its antifungal activity and green antifungal lipopeptides production

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
The biosynthesis of antifungal lipopeptides iturin and fengycin has attracted broad interest; however, there is a bottleneck in its low yield in wild strains.

Cyclic LIPopeptides from Bacillus subtilis ABS-S14 elicit defense-related gene expression in citrus fruit. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Effects of cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs) obtained from Bacillus subtilis ABS-S14 on eliciting defense-related gene transcription and activity of defense-related enzymes; glucanase (GLU), chitinase (CHI), peroxidase (POX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) in Citrus ...

Improved Production of Fengycin in Bacillus subtilis by Integrated Strain Engineering Strategy

open access: yes, 2022
Fengycin is a lipopeptide with broad-spectrum antifungal activity. However, its low yield limits its commercial application. Therefore, we iteratively edited multiple target genes associated with fengycin synthesis by combinatorial metabolic engineering.

Isolation and Characterization of Fengycins Produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens JFL21 and Its Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Potential Against Multidrug-Resistant Foodborne Pathogens

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The continuing emergence and development of pathogenic microorganisms that are resistant to antibiotics constitute an increasing global concern, and the effort in new antimicrobials discovery will remain relevant until a lasting solution is found.

Effect of Fengycin, a Lipopeptide Produced by Bacillus subtilis, on Model Biomembranes [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2008
Fengycin is a biologically active lipopeptide produced by several Bacillus subtilis strains. The lipopeptide is known to develop antifungal activity against filamentous fungi and to have hemolytic activity 40-fold lower than that of surfactin, another lipopeptide produced by B. subtilis.

Phylogenetic Distribution of Secondary Metabolites in the Bacillus subtilis Species Complex

open access: yesmSystems, 2021
Microbes produce a plethora of secondary (or specialized) metabolites that, although not essential for primary metabolism, benefit them to survive in the environment, communicate, and influence cell differentiation.
