Fengycin C Produced by Bacillus subtilis EA-CB0015

open access: yesJournal of Natural Products, 2013
Bacillus subtilis EA-CB0015 was isolated from the phyllosphere of a banana plant and tested for its potential to produce bioactive compounds against Mycosphaerella fijiensis. Using a dual plate culture technique the cell-free supernatant of B. subtilis EA-CB0015 produced inhibition values of 89 ± 1%.

Activation of the Promoter of the Fengycin Synthetase Operon by the UP Element [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2009
ABSTRACTBacillus subtilisF29-3 produces an antifungal peptidic antibiotic that is synthesized nonribosomally by fengycin synthetases. Our previous work established that the promoter of the fengycin synthetase operon is located 86 nucleotides upstream of the translational initiation codon offenC.

Polynucleotide phosphorylase is involved in the control of lipopeptide fengycin production in Bacillus subtilis [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Microbiology, 2018
Bacillus subtilis is a wealth source of lipopeptide molecules such as iturins, surfactins and fengycins or plipastatins endowed with a range of biological activities. These molecules, designated secondary metabolites, are synthesized via non-ribosomal peptides synthesis (NRPS) machinery and are most often subjected to a complex regulation with ...

iTRAQ-BASED Proteomic Analysis of the Mechanism of Fructose on Improving Fengycin Biosynthesis in Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Fengycin, as a lipopeptide produced by Bacillus subtilis, displays potent activity against filamentous fungi, including Aspergillus flavus and Soft-rot fungus, which exhibits a wide range of potential applications in food industries, agriculture, and ...

Suppression of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum by the Induction of Systemic Resistance and Regulation of Antioxidant Pathways in Tomato Using Fengycin Produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens FZB42

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2019
Lipopeptides from Bacillus species exhibit promising biological control activity against plant pathogens. This study aimed to explore the potential of purified fengycin to induce systemic resistance in tomato against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum.

Deciphering the Mechanisms Involved in Reduced Sensitivity to Azoles and Fengycin Lipopeptide in Venturia Inaequalis [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiological Research
Apple scab, caused by the hemibiotrophic fungus Venturia inaequalis, is currently the most common and damaging disease in apple orchards. Two strains of V. inaequalis (S755 and Rs552) with different sensitivities to azole fungicides and the bacterial metabolite fengycin were compared to determine the mechanisms responsible for these differences ...

Effects of cholesterol on the mechanism of fengycin, a biofungicide [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract Fengycins are a class of antifungal lipopeptides synthesized by the bacteria Bacillus subtilis , commercially available as the primary component of the agricultural fungicide Serenade ® . They are toxic to fungi, but far less to mammalian

Fengycin Produced by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens FZB42 Inhibits Fusarium graminearum Growth and Mycotoxins Biosynthesis

open access: yesToxins, 2019
Fusarium graminearum is a notorious pathogen that causes Fusarium head blight (FHB) in cereal crops. It produces secondary metabolites, such as deoxynivalenol, diminishing grain quality and leading to lesser crop yield.

Differential Impact of Ergosterol on Yeast Membranes Exposed to Membrane-Targeting Antimicrobial Compounds. [PDF]

open access: yesChembiochem
Biomimetic membranes (liposomes) were prepared from yeast phospholipids with variable concentrations of ergosterol and exposed to antimicrobial compounds. Dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering measured changes in size and ζ‐potential to study their interaction with the antimicrobial compounds.

Nonribosomal Synthesis of Fengycin on an Enzyme Complex Formed by Fengycin Synthetases [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2007
Fengycin, a lipopeptidic antibiotic, is synthesized nonribosomally by five fengycin synthetases (FenC, FenD, FenE, FenA, and FenB) in Bacillus subtilis F29-3. This work demonstrates that these fengycin synthetases interlock to form a chain, which coils into a 14.5-nm structure.
