Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Epitope Mapping of Anti‐Neurofascin 155 Antibody in a Large Cohort of Autoimmune Nodopathy Patients
ABSTRACT Objective Autoimmune nodopathy (AN), a newly recognized disease entity, is an immune‐mediated polyneuropathy involving autoantibodies against cell adhesion molecules located in nodes of Ranvier and paranodal regions, such as neurofascin 186 (NF186) and neurofascin 155 (NF155). The present study aimed to identify the epitopes for autoantibodies

Functional dissection of the
Background Anosmin-1, the protein implicated in the X-linked Kallmann's syndrome, plays a role in axon outgrowth and branching but also in epithelial morphogenesis. The molecular mechanism of its action is, however, widely unknown.

Enhanced initial protein adsorption on an engineered nanostructured cubic zirconia [PDF]
Motivated by experimentally observed biocompatibility enhancement of nanoengineered cubic zirconia ZrO2 coatings to mesenchymal stromal cells, we have carried out computational analysis of the initial immobilization of one of known structural fragment of the adhesive protein (fibronectin) on the corresponding surface.

Inflamed fibronectin: an altered fibronectin enhances neutrophil adhesion [PDF]
Recent investigations have emphasized the role of activated granulocytes in mediating vascular endothelial injury in the pathogenesis of shock lung. In vitro studies have indicated that tight adherence of the neutrophil to the endothelium is crucial for the development of cellular injury.

Vulnerability of geriatric patients to biomaterial associated infections: in vitro study of biofilm formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa on orthopedic implants [PDF]
Fibronectin, a glycoprotein secreted by connective tissue cells is found in the human plasma as well as in the ECM. It is known to have an adhesive property and plays a role in cell-to-cell and cell-to-substratum adhesions. In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA), fibronectin is locally synthesized by the synovial cells, and the synovial ...

Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.
