Skin Barrier Biomarkers in Patch‐Induced and Clinical Allergic and Irritant Contact Dermatitis

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 317-326, April 2026.
Both patch‐induced and clinical ICD and ACD showed consistent alterations in skin barrier‐associated biomarkers, indicative of skin barrier impairment. Among the tested allergens, chromium elicited more pronounced biomarker responses compared to nickel and methylisothiazolinone.

Assessing Skin Barrier Integrity: A Comparative Study Using Transepidermal Water Loss, Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy and Corneometry

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 94, Issue 4, Page 327-337, April 2026.
This study compares experimental models of human skin barrier disruption and evaluates non‐invasive assessment methods. It highlights electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) as a novel tool of quantifying skin barrier damage and supports methodological standardisation and an improved understanding of barrier dysfunction under real‐world conditions ...
