Filaggrin, an Intermediate Filament-Associated Protein: Structural and Functional Implications from the Sequence of a cDNA from Rat

DNA and Cell Biology, 1990
Filaggrin is an intermediate filament-associated protein that is involved in aggregation of keratin filaments in fully cornified cells of the mammalian epidermis, and is an important marker for epidermal differentiation. In this report, the sequence of a rat cDNA clone coding for a portion of the polymeric precursor, profilaggrin, is presented.

The characterization of human epidermal filaggrin. A histidine-rich, keratin filament-aggregating protein.

Biochimica et biophysica acta, 1983
Filaggrin is a histidine-rich, cationic protein that aggregates with keratin filaments in vitro and may function as the keratin matrix protein in the terminally differentiated cells of the epidermis. This protein has been previously isolated from rodent epidermis.

Altered mRNA and protein expression of filaggrin in the skin of a canine animal model for atopic dermatitis

Veterinary Dermatology, 2013
BackgroundFilaggrin is a structural protein that has attracted increasing interest over the past decade for its role in the pathogenesis of human atopic dermatitis (AD). Null mutations in its sequence are considered risk factors in the development of AD.Hypothesis/ObjectivesTo investigate canine filaggrin mRNA and protein expression in the skin of ...

Cholesterol sulfate induces expression of the skin barrier protein filaggrin in normal human epidermal keratinocytes through induction of RORα

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2012
Cholesterol sulfate is abundant in the human epidermis and is a putative natural ligand for retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor alpha (RORα). Although direct binding of cholesterol sulfate is expected to activate RORα, cholesterol sulfate can also induce RORα expression and increase RORα target gene expression.
