Surface-associated filamentous hemagglutinin induces autoagglutination of Bordetella pertussis [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1994
Filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA) is a major adhesin produced by Bordetella pertussis, the etiologic agent of whooping cough. FHA has been shown to be surface associated but is also secreted by virulent bacteria. Microscopic observations of lungs of mice infected with B. pertussis showed that the bacteria grow as clusters within the alveolar lumen.

Proinflammatory and Proapoptotic Activities Associated withBordetella pertussisFilamentous Hemagglutinin [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 2001
ABSTRACTFilamentous hemagglutinin (FHA) is a dominant cell surface-associatedBordetella pertussisadhesin. Recognition that this protein is secreted in significant amounts and that bacterial adhesins may have other actvities, prompted an assessment of FHA effects on human macrophages.

Immunogenicity and protective efficacy of a newly developed tri-component diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis vaccine in a murine model

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection, 2018
Background/Purpose: Although assessing the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of acellular pertussis (aP) vaccines via murine model studies faces limitations, preliminary assessments have been achieved by evaluating respiratory challenge and humoral ...

Mutant of Bordetella pertussis which lacks ability to produce filamentous hemagglutinin [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1982
Mutant cultures that lacked the ability to produce filamentous hemagglutinin were obtained by UV irradiation of Bordetella pertussis strain 18-323. Various biological activities of these mutants were compared with those of the parent culture. It was found that the leukocytosis-promoting, histamine-sensitizing, and mouse-protecting activities of the ...

Influenza virus morphogenesis and budding. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Influenza viruses are enveloped, negative stranded, segmented RNA viruses belonging to Orthomyxoviridae family. Each virion consists of three major sub-viral components, namely (i) a viral envelope decorated with three transmembrane proteins ...

Mucosal immunization with filamentous hemagglutinin protects against Bordetella pertussis respiratory infection [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1992
Mucosal immunization of mice with purified Bordetella pertussis filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), by either the respiratory or the gut route, was found to protect against B. pertussis infection of the trachea and lungs. Intranasal immunization of BALB/c and (C57BL/6 x C3H/HeN)F1 adult female mice with FHA prior to B. pertussis aerosol challenge resulted

Peroxin 14 tags peroxisomes and interacts with Nbr1 for pexophagy in the filamentous insect pathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana

open access: yesAutophagy Reports, 2023
Pexophagy is a main pathway for selective degradation of peroxisomes. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying pexophagy remain fragmented in the filamentous fungi.

Alterations of membrane curvature during influenza virus budding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Influenza A virus belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family. It is an enveloped virus that contains a segmented and negative-sense RNA genome. Influenza A viruses cause annual epidemics and occasional major pandemics, are a major cause of morbidity and ...

Acellular Pertussis Vaccine Components: Today and Tomorrow

open access: yesVaccines, 2020
Pertussis is a highly communicable acute respiratory infection caused by Bordetella pertussis. Immunity is not lifelong after natural infection or vaccination. Pertussis outbreaks occur cyclically worldwide and effective vaccination strategies are needed
