FLASH Radiotherapy: Expectations, Challenges, and Current Knowledge
Major strides have been made in the development of FLASH radiotherapy (FLASH RT) in the last ten years, but there are still many obstacles to overcome for transfer to the clinic to become a reality. Although preclinical and first-in-human clinical evidence suggests that ultra-high dose rates (UHDRs) induce a sparing effect in normal tissue without ...

Improved Radiofrequency Safety Modelling in MRI Using In Vivo Measurements of Brain Conductivity
A workflow for the comparison of simulated and measured B1+$$ {B}_1^{+} $$ maps was developed and applied to a study on human tissue (brain) electrical conductivity, investigating differences between conductivity values from ex vivo and in vivo measurements.

Mechanisms of the FLASH effect: current insights and advances
Radiotherapy is a fundamental tool in cancer treatment, utilized in over 60% of cancer patients during their treatment course. While conventional radiotherapy is effective, it has limitations, including prolonged treatment durations, which extend patient

This study analyzed log data from the Japanese hinotori surgical robot to characterize manipulation performed by experienced surgeons in robotic surgery. Compared with less‐experienced surgeons, the experienced group demonstrated shorter task durations, reduced travel distances with the right instrument (Arm3), faster and more dynamically modulated ...

Diabetes reduces macrophage MEX3A and aggravates atherosclerotic plaque instability. MEX3A stabilises Slc7a11 and Gpx4 mRNAs to sustain SLC7A11/GPX4 antioxidant defence. MEX3A deficiency promotes macrophage ferroptosis, lipid peroxidation and mitochondrial injury. Ferrostatin‐1 partially attenuates ferroptotic injury and diabetic plaque destabilisation.

Macro Monte Carlo dose calculation for very high energy electron (VHEE) radiotherapy
Abstract Background Very high energy electron (VHEE) radiotherapy has gained growing interest owing to its potential to reach deep‐seated targets and induce FLASH effect. Dose calculations can be performed using analytical or Monte Carlo (MC) methods. Analytical approaches enable rapid dose computation but suffer from limited accuracy in heterogeneous ...

Possible mechanisms and simulation modeling of FLASH radiotherapy
FLASH radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) has great potential to improve patient outcomes. It delivers radiation doses at an ultra-high dose rate (UHDR: ≥ 40 Gy/s) in a single instant or a few pulses.

Influence factor and mechanism of FLASH effect
FLASH radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) represents an innovative treatment modality utilizing ultra-high dose-rate irradiation (>40 Gy/s). The FLASH effect, induced by FLASH-RT, is characterized by the selective radioprotective effect of normal tissue while ...
