Enveloped and non-enveloped viral-like particles in Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigotes

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo
Electron microscopy is routinely used to identify viral infections in protozoan parasites. These viruses have been described as non-enveloped and icosahedral structures with a diameter of 30-60 nm.

Sindbis virus interferes with dengue 4 virus replication and its potential transmission by Aedes albopictus

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Background Mosquitoes transmit a number of arboviruses associated with disease outbreaks in humans and other animals. The majority of medically important arboviruses belong to three families: Togaviridae, Flaviviridae and Bunyaviridae. Several members of

Virus‐specific alterations in placental structure and transporter expression following maternal arbovirus infection

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Arboviruses induce virus‐specific alterations in placental structure and functional markers. Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) exposure was associated with reduced syncytiotrophoblast and syncytial knot areas, increased cytotrophoblast proliferation (Ki‐67) and thyroid transporter (MCT8) expression, reduced protective (P‐gp and BCRP ...

RNA viral protein structure database: A comprehensive and user‐friendly web database for RNA viral protein structures

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2026.
Given the central role of protein structures in RNA virus biology, the RNA viral protein structure database (RVPSD, https://virus.9itsg.net) integrates taxonomic classification, viral nucleotide and protein sequences, functional annotations, and predicted three‐dimensional protein structures.

Dengue Virus Molecular Targets and Antiviral Drug Development: Advances, Challenges and Therapeutic Perspectives

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 33, 1 September 2026.
This narrative review analyzes DENV molecular targets, including structural proteins (C, prM/M, E), non‐structural components (NS1NS5), and host factors, alongside small‐molecule candidates in preclinical and clinical phases. Owing to high structural conservation, the NS2B‐NS3 protease and NS5 (RdRp/MTase) remain primary drug discovery focuses, while ...

Molecular and Serological Screening of West Nile and Usutu Virus in Birds and Humans: A Sentinel Study in Finland

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
We developed sensitive real‐time PCR assays for West Nile virus and Usutu virus to screen bird and human samples in Finland. Although no positive samples were detected, active migratory flyways and recent cases in neighbouring countries highlight the risk of future introduction and the need for continued surveillance.
