Ambroxol Hydrochloride Combined with Fluconazole Reverses the Resistance of Candida albicans to Fluconazole [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2017
In this study, we found that ambroxol hydrochloride (128 μg/mL) exhibits synergistic antifungal effects in combination with fluconazole (2 μg/mL) against resistant planktonic Candida albicans (C. albicans) cells. This combination also exhibited synergistic effects against resistant C.

Enhanced contact activity of fluconazole in association with antioxidants against fluconazole-resistant organisms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2002
Fluconazole alone does not demonstrate any contact activity against resistant organisms. Phenolic antioxidants, such as butylated hydroxyanisole, appear to promote fluconazole activity resulting in the killing of 10(4) cfu/mL of 11 resistant Candida albicans strains within 3-15 min and of 10(4) cfu/mL of 10 resistant Escherichia coli strains within 6 ...

Novel fluconazole-resistant zoonotic yeast isolated from mastitis

open access: yesAnimal Biotechnology, 2021
A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted during 2018-2019 to decipher the prevalence of yeast mastitis. The results indicated a 19.68% prevalence of clinical mastitis in bovines. Among them, 5.51% of samples revealed yeasts constituting 1.09% overall prevalence.

Exploring hidden dimensions of soil fungal biodiversity: A simple technique to detect soil fungi resistant to antifungal compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Soils are known to be ultimate and complex reservoirs of microbial diversity. The complex dimensions of bacterial and fungal diversity in tropical soils and microbial community dynamics are underexplored.

Repurposing pantoprazole and haloperidol as efflux pump inhibitors in azole resistant clinical Candida albicans and non-albicans isolates

open access: yesSaudi Pharmaceutical Journal, 2022
Candida species have a major role in nosocomial infections leading to high morbidity and mortality. Increased resistance to various antifungals, especially azoles is a significant problem.

Correlation between ERG11 Gene Mutations and Fluconazole Resistance in Candida albicans Strains Isolated from Rasht in Years 2015-2016 [PDF]

open access: yesMajallah-i dānishgāh-i ̒ulūm-i pizishkī-i Arāk, 2017
Background: Candida albicans as an opportunistic fungal pathogen in human causes candidiasis. The widespread use of azoles has led to the increase of azole resistance in Candida albicans isolates.

Fluconazole Resistance among Oral Candida Isolates from People Living with HIV/AIDS in a Nigerian Tertiary Hospital

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2017
Oropharyngeal candidiasis, a common fungal infection in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), arises from Candida species colonizing the oral cavity. Fluconazole is the preferred treatment and is often used empirically.

Redefining pleiotropic drug resistance in a pathogenic yeast: Pdr1 functions as a sensor of cellular stresses in Candida glabrata

open access: yesmSphere, 2023
Candida glabrata is a prominent opportunistic fungal pathogen of humans. The increasing incidence of C. glabrata infections is attributed to both innate and acquired resistance to antifungals.

The Surgical Infection Society revised guidelines on the management of intra-abdominal infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Previous evidence-based guidelines on the management of intra-abdominal infection (IAI) were published by the Surgical Infection Society (SIS) in 1992, 2002, and 2010. At the time the most recent guideline was released, the plan was to update
