RVFV Infection in Goats by Different Routes of Inoculation

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a zoonotic arbovirus of the Phenuiviridae family. Infection causes abortions in pregnant animals, high mortality in neonate animals, and mild to severe symptoms in both people and animals.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

A ddPCR method for simultaneous detection and quantification of Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Bacillus cereus in foods

open access: yesScientific Reports
The traditional methods for the detection and quantification of foodborne bacteria are time-consuming with the potential for false negative pathogen-free results. Rapid and effective detection and quantification of foodborne pathogenic microorganisms are

Determination of Six Eugenol Residues in Aquatic Products by Gas Chromatography-Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, 2021
Eugenol compounds are widely used in the circulation and transportation of fresh aquatic products because of their good anesthetic effects. However, some studies have shown that eugenol compounds are potential carcinogens.

Principles of Food Inspection

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 1979
A brief review of the history of food-caused illness in humans and those categories or areas in a foodservice operations that are considered critical by public health personnel are discussed. The role of the foodservice manager is examined with respect to foodborne outbreaks.

Identifying and characterising a plant GH1 β‐glucosidase that exhibits hydrolytic activity on N‐linked glucopyranoside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We report the first β‐glucosidase with demonstrated hydrolytic activity on an N‐linked glycopyranoside. The enzyme, native to maize, was biochemically characterised for this novel reaction, and structural modelling of the enzyme–substrate complex revealed several clues to the underlying reduced catalytic rate relative to its native O‐glycopyranoside ...

Determination of 60 Food-Borne Stimulant Drug Residues in Animal-Derived Foods by Solid-Phase Extraction Purification and Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole/Orbitrap High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality
A method for the rapid screening and confirmation of 60 food-borne stimulants in animal-derived foods was developed using the ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole/orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q/Orbitrap HRMS). After

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.
