On the etiology of cardiovascular diseases: a new framework for understanding literature results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The interpretative framework presented here provides a rationale for many well-known features of cardiovascular diseases. Prolonged acidemia with high blood levels of free fatty acids is proposed to shape the basic context for formation of fatty acid ...

Total and free fatty acid profiles in traditional dry-fermented sausages made in Galicia (NW of Spain)

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2004
The total and free fatty acid contents were studied in ready for consumption samples of four different varieties of traditional dry-fermented sausages made in Galicia (NW of Spain): Chorizo gallego, Chorizo de cebolla, Androlla and Botillo.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Modelling the influence of palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic and oleic acids on apparent heat resistance of spores of Bacillus cereus NTCC 11145 and Clostridium sporogenes Pasteur 79.3

open access: yes, 2010
International audienceHeat resistance of spores is affected by many factors such as temperature, pH, water activity (aw) and others. Previous studies have reported that free fatty acids can affect the germination and growth of bacterial spores.

Diurnal rhythm of plasma EPA and DHA in healthy adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Knowledge of the diurnal variation in circulating omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) may be an important consideration for the development of dosing protocols designed to optimise tissue delivery of these fatty acids.

Continuous monitoring of free fatty acid release from adipocytes by pH-stat titration.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1979
A methods for direct and continuous monitoring of free fatty acid release in adipocyte suspensions is described. Using a pH-stat apparatus the protons from the released free fatty acids are continuously titrated and the accumulated amount of OH- added is

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
