Development and optimization of a Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV)-mediated gene editing system to improve Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance in wheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
ABSTRACT Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a devastating disease in wheat that causes million dollars of wheat yield losses annually in the U.S.A. Recently we demonstrated that wheat carry FHB susceptible genes and knocking out the susceptible gene increased FHB resistance, which suggests that manipulating susceptible ...

Advances in gene cloning and functional genomics approaches for wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) improvement

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a globally important cereal crop which provides ∼20% calories in human diet. Identifying genes and elucidating their functions is still challenging in wheat due to its large genome (∼16 Gb) with significant amount of repetitive elements.

FgJhd2 Modulates FgMpf2 Expression via H3K4 Demethylation and Influences Sexual Development in Fusarium graminearum

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 6, June 2026.
The histone demethylase FgJhd2 regulates sexual reproduction in the fungal pathogen Fusarium graminearum via H3K4me3 demethylation. Mechanistically, FgJhd2 restricts H3K4 methylation to suppress the expression of FgMpf2, an RNA‐binding protein involved in RNA degradation.

Integration of QTL detection and marker assisted selection for improving resistance to Fusarium head blight and important agronomic traits in wheat

open access: yesCrop Journal, 2014
Fusarium head blight (FHB), caused by Fusarium graminearum, is one of the most destructive wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) diseases worldwide. Identification of quantitative trait loci (QTL) conferring FHB resistance followed by marker assisted selection ...

TaUGT6, a Novel UDP-Glycosyltransferase Gene Enhances the Resistance to FHB and DON Accumulation in Wheat

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Fusarium head blight (FHB), a devastating wheat disease, results in loss of yield and production of mycotoxins including deoxynivalenol (DON) in infected grains. DON is harmful to human and animal health and facilitates the spread of FHB symptoms.

Infrared Thermal Imaging Enhanced Selection Intensity for Fusarium Head Blight Resistance in Soft Winter Wheat

open access: yesPlant Breeding, Volume 145, Issue 3, Page 441-453, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Development of Fusarium head blight (FHB)‐resistant winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) varieties relies heavily on visual scoring for large‐scale field evaluations. However, visual assessment of FHB symptoms remains a bottleneck in FHB resistance breeding due to its inherent subjectivity. At a single‐spike scale under greenhouse conditions, a

Combination of Bacillus velezensis RC218 and Chitosan to Control Fusarium Head Blight on Bread and Durum Wheat under Greenhouse and Field Conditions

open access: yesToxins, 2022
Fusarium graminearum sensu stricto is, worldwide, the main causal agent of Fusarium head blight in small cereal crops such as wheat, barley, and oat. The pathogen causes not only reductions in yield and grain quality but also contamination with type-B ...

The Transcription Factor FgSge1 Harnesses the SAGA Complex to Activate Mycotoxin Biosynthesis and Fungal Virulence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 29, 22 May 2026.
This study reveals the molecular mechanism by which the transcription factor FgSge1 regulates mycotoxin biosynthesis and virulence in Fusarium graminearum. FgSge1 binds to the TAARGTTT cis‐element, enabling self‐activation. It recruits the SAGA complex, promotes histone acetylation, and facilitates jet‐like chromatin remodeling, thereby activating ...

Wheat-Psathyrostachys huashanica 4Ns Additional Line Confers Resistance to Fusarium Head Blight

open access: yesPlants
Fusarium head blight (FHB) is one of the major wheat diseases caused by Fusarium species (mainly Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium asiaticum), resulting in significant global wheat yield losses and risks to food security.

Canonical Correlation Analysis and Grouping of Bread Wheat Genotypes Based on Morphophenological Traits and Fusarium Head Blight Tolerance Indexes [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهشنامه اصلاح گیاهان زراعی, 2023
Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Fusarium head blight disease is one of the most important and destructive diseases of wheat in hot and humid climates, which, in addition to reducing yield, causes the accumulation of mycotoxins in the grain,
