Elementary properties of spontaneous fusion of peptidergic vesicles: fusion pore gating [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2007
The release of hormones and neurotransmitters by regulated exocytosis requires the delivery of secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane, where they dock and become primed for fusion with the plasma membrane. Upon stimulation a fusion pore is formed through which cargo molecules diffuse out of the vesicle lumen into the extracellular space.

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

The SNAP-25 linker supports fusion intermediates by local lipid interactions

open access: yeseLife, 2019
SNAP-25 is an essential component of SNARE complexes driving fast Ca2+-dependent exocytosis. Yet, the functional implications of the tandem-like structure of SNAP-25 are unclear.

Towards material and process agnostic features for the classification of pore types in metal additive manufacturing

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2023
The manufacturing of metal parts via powder-bed fusion is often still facing quality issues due to microstructural porosity. Minimizing this porosity remains a priority and requires the optimization of printing process parameters.

Clinical application of ceramics in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion: A review and update [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Study Design: Narrative review. Objectives: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a reliable procedure, commonly used for cervical degenerative disc disease. For interbody fusions, autograft was the gold standard for decades; however, limited

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

A level-set method for the evolution of cells and tissue during curvature-controlled growth

open access: yes, 2019
Most biological tissues grow by the synthesis of new material close to the tissue's interface, where spatial interactions can exert strong geometric influences on the local rate of growth.

Fusion pore or porosome: structure and dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Endocrinology, 2003
Electrophysiological measurements on live secretory cells almost a decade ago suggested the presence of fusion pores at the cell plasma membrane. Membrane-bound secretory vesicles were hypothesized to dock and fuse at these sites, to release their contents.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Phosphomimetic mutation of cysteine string protein-α increases the rate of regulated exocytosis by modulating fusion pore dynamics in PC12 cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BACKGROUND: Cysteine string protein-α (CSPα) is a chaperone to ensure protein folding. Loss of CSPα function associates with many neurological diseases. However, its function in modulating regulated exocytosis remains elusive.
