The Role of Invariant Natural Killer T Cells in Dendritic Cell Licensing, Cross-Priming, and Memory CD8+ T Cell Generation [PDF]
New vaccination strategies focus on achieving CD8+ T cell (CTL) immunity rather than on induction of protective antibody responses. While the requirement of CD4+ T (Th) cell help in dendritic cell (DC) activation and licensing, and in CTL memory ...

Synthesis of Galactosylceramide and Glucosylceramide by Mouse Kidney Preparations
A particulate fraction was prepared from kidneys, lyophilized, and coated with ceramide. After incubation with UDP-[14C]Gal and appropriate cofactors, the major radioactive component in the lipid fraction was galactosylceramide (Gal-Cer). If UDP-Glc was substituted for UDP-Gal, the product was glucosylceramide (Glc-Cer).

Weight Loss‐Associated Remodeling of Adipose Tissue Immunometabolism
ABSTRACT Obesity is a multifactorial condition characterized by excessive adiposity and systemic chronic low‐grade inflammation. Recent literature reflects a growing appreciation for the complex interplay between metabolism and the immune system in the pathogenesis of obesity‐related health conditions.

Immune evasion of the CD1d/NKT cell axis [PDF]
Many reviews on the CD1d/NKT cell axis focus on the ability of CD1d-restricted NKT cells to serve as effector cells in a variety of disorders, be they infectious diseases, cancer or autoimmunity.

3-O-acetyl-sphingosine-series myelin glycolipids
Several glycosphingolipids, less polar than galactosylceramide (GalCer), have been purified from rat brain and designated as fast migrating cerebrosides (FMCs). They co-appear with GalCer during myelinogenesis, reach a peak concentration at postnatal day

Studies on cultured Schwann cells: the induction of myelin synthesis, and the control of their proliferation by a new growth factor [PDF]
We have recently described the use of immunological methods to identify and purify rat Schwann cells. In dissociated cultures of neonatal sciatic nerve, all of the cells can be identified by antigenic criteria as either Schwann cells or fibroblasts.

TH9 cells are required for tissue mast cell accumulation during allergic inflammation [PDF]
BACKGROUND: IL-9 is important for the growth and survival of mast cells. IL-9 is produced by T cells, natural killer T cells, mast cells, eosinophils, and innate lymphoid cells, although the cells required for mast cell accumulation during allergic ...

Lack of chronic immune activation in the presence of persistent viremia is a key feature that distinguishes nonpathogenic simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infection in natural hosts from pathogenic SIV and HIV infection.
