The gasdermin-D pore: Executor of pyroptotic cell death

open access: yesOncotarget, 2016
Pyroptosis is a lytic type of programmed cell death that is initiated in response to pathogenor host-derived perturbations of the cytosol. It is characterized by cell swelling, lysis, and the release of cytoplasmic content; thus restricting the replication of intracellular pathogens and attracting effector cells of the immune system.

Insulin Resistance: An Update on Biochemical and Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Impact on Various Diseases

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Insulin resistance is the biological phenomenon in which the human body's normal response to the metabolic hormone insulin is compromised. Insulin is a regulator of most of the essential metabolic steps in the body that control energy homoeostasis, so dysregulation leads to multiple diverse human diseases including, most prominently, Type 2 ...

Gut microbiome‐derived metabolites show promise in cancer research and therapy

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
The metabolites produced by the gut microbiome, which are subject to regulation by multiple factors, play a pivotal role in the progression of various types of cancer. These metabolites not only function as potential biomarkers for the early detection and monitoring of tumor development, but also actively participate in cancer therapeutic processes ...

Proteomics‐Based Identification of the Pyroptosis‐Related Biomarker PCSK9 and Its Association With the Pathogenesis of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune disease, and early diagnosis is critical for effective treatment. This study aims to identify potential biomarkers related to pyroptosis through serum proteomics analysis, offering new insights for the early diagnosis of RA.

Retrotransposon-Mediated Fgf5go-Utr Mutant Mice with Long Pelage Hair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We found 6 spontaneous mutant mice with long pelage hair in our ICR breeding colony. The abnormal trait was restricted to long hair in these mice, which we named moja. They were fertile and showed the same growth and behavior as wild-type mice.

RBMX Transcriptionally Repressed by EZH2‐Associated H3K27me3 Modification Attenuates Pyroptosis in Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury via Regulating SIRT3/NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI) to kidney is a significant clinical factor in acute kidney injury (AKI). This study aimed to investigate the new role of RNA‐binding motif protein X‐linked (RBMX), a modulator of m6A methylation, in renal IRI and to examine the associated regulatory mechanisms. An in vitro renal IRI model was established using

Genistein inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory substances from macrophages by suppressing potassium loss- and ROS-mediated caspase-1/gasdermin D pathway activation and pyroptotic cell lysis [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences
Objective(s): The expression of pro-inflammatory substances is closely related to various diseases. Genistein (GEN), a soy isoflavone, has been proven to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory substances in macrophages.

MCC950/CRID3 potently targets the NACHT domain of wild-type NLRP3 but not disease-associated mutants for inflammasome inhibition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The nucleotide-binding-domain (NBD)-and leucine-rich repeat (LRR)-containing (NLR) family, pyrin-domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome drives pathological inflammation in a suite of autoimmune, metabolic, malignant, and neurodegenerative diseases ...
